Command - I had Coach Basting as our head football coach when I was on the JV team.

The way it was

laid out was it was his way or the highway. He had everyday planned out the way he wanted
it to go and nothing could be said or done to alter that mentality. He ruled with an iron fist
and was unwavering. I didn't mind this style of coaching because times were different then
and we all knew what we signed up for, so it was sometimes nice knowing that we didn't have
to think at all during practice....just react and perform.

Submissive - I never played for a submissive coach but ran across many submissive leaders while serving
in the Army. They would sit at their desks playing angry birds or watching videos while we
did all the work and made all the decisions. When an problems were encountered they
would just reply with "Well ya'll should figure out the best course of action and just make it
happen". I do not like leaders with this mentality because it is weak and counter
productive. I think leaders like this were promoted to that position before they are actually
ready to lead therefore they let the employees (soldiers) make all the decisions so they can
never be wrong and always point the finger toward somebody else.

Cooperative - My favorite coach on Varsity football was this way and I still look up to him today. Coach
Shaw was my defensive line coach and he was amazing. He always wanted to know what
we were seeing on the line during the games so he could help us make adjustments and he
would always ask if we had any suggestions on how to overcome these obstacles.
He treated everyone with respect and kindness. We were all like family in his eyes so our
input was always wanted and appreciated.
