Perception is real, the truth is not

Decades of Philippine politics, and it appears that in our day and age, political
propaganda is the norm. Politicians swindling millions out of our fellow Filipinos'
pockets. To creating political dynasties for their families to rise while their own towns’
plummet due to their corruption. Unfortunately, I have nothing positive to say about
our country's politics. And, with the upcoming election, we will witness the same
spectacle of politicians yelling about changes and progress, which will result in little
more than a pipedream with no significant breakthroughs.
And for the politician that I will be tackling today. As they say "For their comeback
playbook, facts don't matter". Years of good planning is what I would describe
Bongbong Marcos' play on Philippine politics. With stereotyping, glittering
generalities, artificial dichotomy and most of all distortion of data. Beyond defending
the family's wealth and denying enormous corruption during the Martial Law period,
which was plainly relevant and with his "Achievements" either overdone or
fabricated. I just have no regard for a liar and someone who is solely interested in
regaining power for the name Marcos.
Much of the information celebrating the alleged "achievements" of Bongbong
Marcos' focuses on his father's accomplishments rather than his own. As I have
argued, if we remove his surname, what exactly has he accomplished? In addition,
to using social media as a weapon, they hire trolls to manufacture false news for
their advantage and against their political adversaries, to the point of
misrepresenting facts. Testimonials of other politicians and partnering up with strong
names in the industry such as the marcos-duterte tandem in the upcoming elections,
name-calling of their rivals. And glittering generalities “to make the philippines great
again just like his father’s reign” which in fact is a lie.
But unfortunately in turn, I would have to admit the playbook appears to be working.
With Marcos being eyed as one of the strongest candiate in the upcoming
presidential elections. I as a student could only hope that who ever wins places the
fate of the nation in the hands of the people and turns the administration into a
people-centered one. We must reject the notion that propaganda and corruption are
the norm. Filipinos deserve better.
