1. Connect load share cables to each generator (as per picture 1); the screen cable shield is to be
connected to earth (din rail location 10 on picture 1) only one generator at the start or end of the
system. The screen cable shield is to be joined on all other gensets to remove interference from the
load share lines. Ensure that cables do not get crossed over during installation. Check wiring from
din rail to Gempac is as per picture 2 below.

2. Enter the SYSTEM menu on the Gempac. In screen 4010 ‘nominal settings’ ensure that all
parameters are set to the desired settings. These settings should be identical on all generators on
the system for equal load sharing (if gensets are the same size). If gensets are of different size – for
example a 1250kva and 1000kva the kW and Current settings should be left at standard settings
with only the frequency and voltage changes to suit the system. Once synchronised the 1250kva
will take more load as the nominal power settings are higher than the 1000kva.

3. In ‘system menu’ 4260 check that mode is set for loadsharing

4. For loadsharing with other Gempac gensets check that ‘loadsharing type’ in the ‘system’ menu is
Set to Deif, as per picture below.

5. If loadsharing with non Gempac gensets with Selco load sharers fitted then select Selco in screen
4250, as per picture 1. Also adjust menu 2041 in the ’controls’ menu to sync + GOV, as per picture
2. When loadsharing Gempac gensets with non-Gempac gensets KVAr loadsharing is not available.

6. Ensure all required protection settings are set correctly, paying particular attention to ‘reverse
power’ menu 1090 in the ‘protection’ menu. This should be enabled and set at 5%

7. Before starting engine go to menu 4740 in the ‘system’ menu. Select to ‘ON’ and save. This will
reset the engine and AVR trim settings back to zero. The engine may trip on high/low frequency and
high/low voltage when started after resetting the trim so be prepared to quickly adjust the
frequency on the engine speed controller (KTA50) or frequency panel switch for other models.

8. Next set the voltage adjustment pot (if fitted) to centre; this is done by turning the pot all the way
to the left or right and counting 5 full turns back in the opposite direction

9. Set the AVR droop to 12 o’ clock position and the AVR trim to either the 12 o’ clock position or fully
clockwise. The trim setting is how much control the Gempac has over the AVR voltage, turning the
pot fully clockwise allows the Gempac maximum control of the AVR. In some applications the pot
position may need to be at the 12 o’ clock position if the voltage is correcting itself too quickly and
overshooting.

10. When setting the voltage use a screwdriver to adjust from the AVR voltage pot – do not use the
switch on the control panel as this will use up the trim adjustment.

11. To set the frequency droop on a KTA50 turn the engine controller droop pot to the 10
o’clock position. This is a tried and tested position. With the use of a loadbank the droop can be set
to exactly 4% if desired. After setting the droop position adjust the frequency using the speed pot
on the engine controller. Do not use the frequency switch on the control panel door as this will use
up the trim adjustment.

To manually set the frequency droop on a QSK45, QSK50 or QST30 engine follow the below
procedure:-

• Turn the droop pot fully anti-clockwise

• Set the frequency to 50hz or 60hz by using the frequency switch on the control panel door
• Turn the droop pot clockwise until the frequency changes to either 48hz or 52hz (for 50hz)
62.5 or 57.5hz (60hz)
• Set the engine frequency back to 50hz or 60hz with the frequency switch on the control
panel door

12. Before attempting to close circuit breaker ensure that all voltage, frequency and phase rotation
checks have been carried out on all equipment. Site/project PTW system should be followed at all
times.
