A Time for Giving.

Donations for children at Dar Sagra Familja, Zabbar.

The festive season is fast approaching and the children’s anticipation can be felt.
This is a great time spent in holiday cheer, preparing for the lovely feast, and longing
for those long-awaiting presents. Children can very easily misinterpret this season of
giving as the season of getting. There are many other less fortunate children who do not
have the luxury of making this oversight. A very important value for children to learn
during this time of the year is that of sharing with others. Every year, the SEC Early
Years section organises a project of donations to those less fortunate. We believe that
this helps the children familiarise themselves with the value of giving.

This year, the Early Years team has joined with the Junior school and will be
collecting and giving contributions to the children’s home; Dar Sagra Familja, Zabbar.
Dar Sagra Familja, run by the St. Joseph’s Sisters, welcomes children coming from
troubled homes. The home currently hosts 13 children between the ages of 6 and 18
years. We all can understand that caring for so many children under one roof can be
challenging in meeting all their individual needs. Therefore, this Christmas season we
have asked them how we can help out.

We believe that young children might not yet understand the full value of
donating money. Hence, as agreed with the Housemother, we will be donating school
items (stationary items), craft items (especially activities for rainy days and holidays),
and food & home products (cereal, canned foods, shower gels, shampoo, conditioners,
etc) to the house in the hope of helping them cope with the children’s constant care. If

you would like to join us in this project, please purchase any items you and your child
see relevant and bring them over to College. Items do have to be new and full – the idea
is that the children accompany you to choose and bring them over to give. We will then
gather all the items donated and pass them on to the Sisters at the Dar Sagra Familja.
There will be boxes/bags in each Early Years block and the Junior block ready to be
filled and your child will get the chance to place the items s/he bought to be donated.

This is a noble cause and the children will surely feel the real meaning of the
Christmas spirit – giving and sharing with others who are perhaps less fortunate.

Kindly send in the items by not later than Wednesday 15th December as these will be
taken shortly after to be delivered in time for Christmas.
