PRELIM
1. Sex and Gender are often time taken as one and same thing. Why do we need to differentiate between
sex and gender? What is the basis of this differentiation?
We need to differentiate between sex and gender for us know there significance because we often used
interchangeably, despite having different meanings. The basis of this differentiation as follow:
Sex is “biological” attributes in humans and animals. It is primarily associated with physical and
physiological features including chromosomes, gene expression, hormone levels and function, and
reproductive/sexual anatomy. Sex is usually categorized as female or male but there is variation in the
biological attributes that comprises sex and how those attributes are expressed.
Gender is “psychological,” “cultural.”or socially constructed roles, behaviour, expressions and identities
of girls, women, boys, men and gender diverse people. In short, all difference besides the strictly biological.
Gender identity is not confined to a binary (girl/woman,boy/man) nor is it static; it exists along a continuum and
can change over time.
3. In what ways has the sex-gender system interacted with social, economic, and political system? What
have been the major outcomes of this interaction?
Sex-gender system interacted with social, economic and political system in the means of pointing their
potential for both men and women. Example, masculine and feminine cultures and individuals generally differ
in how they communicate with others. Likewise, feminine people tend to communicate more affection, and with
greater intimacy and confidence than masculine people.
Sex-gender system, influenced by the media, family, environment, economic, social and political. A
child’s understanding of gender roles impacts how they socialize with their peers and form relationships. Many
children have a firm sense of their gender identity, while some children can experience gender identity along a
continuum.
Studies of interaction among peers with equal power and status show few gender differences in behavior
and most interactions between men and women occur in the structural context of roles or status relationships
that are unequal.

REACTIONS:
The story entitled “Ang Pantasya ni Eba” tackle about the sex and gender concepts. Sex and Gender are
two different concepts: sex is biological fact, gender a social construction. The distinction of male and female,
and the definitions of these categories according to each other’s role in biological reproduction, is universal in
all human culture. The definition of gender categories, masculine and feminine, is not. However, nearly all
societies use sex as the basis for differentiating masculine and feminine roles, thus creating a sex-gender
system.
Moreover, racial differences in secondary sex characteristics are often more significant than differences
between men and women of the same race. In municipality of Kagawasan, it shows that women are also
dominant and capable as men can do in managing, administering, handle and preside in the world. In the said
place, having a baby girl has a big impact to a women because it brings his name arouse and for a baby boy it
will help for household task but a father will get sad and cry because the baby will say “Heto na ang isa pang
pangbayad sa kasalanan”.
