Mystery Pre-Writing:Setting

Where and when will your story take place?

In an old cottage in the middle of the 1980’s.

What mood would you like your setting to show?

A peaceful yet mysterious eeriness.

Details:
1. The cottage is near a farm.

2. There are not many houses nearby.

3. The story will be centered around a girl, her brother and her grandmother, who are the
inhabitants of the cottage.

4. There has been news going on around town that there have been cases of numerous
people going missing.

5. The main portion of the story will be happening at night.

6. Mainly, after the news of the disappearances spread across town, nobody ventures out
at night.

Using the details above, write a setting description to include in your story:

Lily has heard the cases where people have been going missing that have kept going on again
and again on the radio. Ever since the beginning of it, her grandmother has forbidden her to go
outside at night, because of the fear of losing her. Lily and her small family, her grandmother,
her brother and her, live in a small cottage, near the riverside. Across the river, we could see a
farm, owned by the McEvans family. They were the only people nearby. Lily and her family live
quite isolated from other people, other than the McEvans, because most of the area close by
are agricultural lands. The town is a very small and humble society, but since the numerous
people going missing and the incapability of the sheriff to find the culprit of it all, discrimination
and ostracisation flamed up. The once peaceful and quiet town quickly turned into rubble as the
fear of the people grew and grew by each passing day.
