II. Write an essay on the following topic: “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Write
120-150 words. Use two arguments and two examples. 30p.
In our society the phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is often used in a
metaphoric way, mostly talking about people and about their appearance, but the origins
of this saying comes from books.
Firstly, we look at a book and by its cover we think about what is inside, but
sometimes the cover can a total opposite idea, from the content. For example, the cover
can be a bright and vibrant colour, but the content may be about something dark and
scary.
Secondly a books content can’t be described by the biding because the cover just
protects the content, helping the inside to remain hidden from the uninterested people,
making it available just for the people who know how to judge a book.
Thirdly an author can specially modify the cover to look like the book is about flowers
and rainbows but the content may have a deeper meaning. Making the cover a trap for
the people is not a rare thing, because the authors like to play with the reader’s mind,
making him think something totally different from looking at the cover and then revealing
the truth about the inside.
In conclusion we can’t just look at a book and say about what is it, because we can be
totally wrong, just like when you categorize the people around you from what are they
wearing.
