a) The scene in the series is laid in Yorkshire. You can notice that some
servants pronounce [ʊ] instead of [ʌ]. It’s peculiar for the Yorkshire dialect (Yorkie)
as well as for many other British dialects. Find some examples of such pronunciation
in the episode.
b) There also examples of pronouncing [d] instead of [ ] at the beginning
of some words. It may represent that the person is from Sheffield (Yorkshire). Find
an example of such pronunciation in the episode.
(Nowadays in Sheffield [d] instead of initial [ ] is typical only of the older
generation.)
c) In some Yorkshire areas [i:] can be pronounced as [eı]. Find an example
in the episode.

In the film there is a quotation from the “Alice in Wonderland” – “Curiouser and
curiouser”. The full quotation is “Curiouser and curiouser!” cried Alice (she was
so much surprised, that for the moment she quite forgot how to speak good English);
“now I'm opening out like the largest telescope that ever was!” In standard English
“curiouser” is not a properly formed word.
