Foreword This Model Recongnition Manual has been issued in order to provide the dealers with enough information to distinguish one model from another when a motorcycle is brought to the dealer for ‘troubleshooting or repair. All motorcycles exported from 1978 to 1980 on are listed in order of nominal engine displacement and refer to the Model Recongnition Manual (P/No. 99930-1001-01) for other models (from 1963 to 1977). Under each engine size, further classification is by model and year. Charts In the rear of the manual give production years and export area information. 1. Photographs Since the photographs show the standard exported motorcycles, there may be minor differ- ence in appearance between the picture and the actual motorcycle, For example, the motorcycle exported to some countries may have a different handlebar or fender, or may have no turn signal lights, reflectors ur seat band. 2. Nicknames The nickname of the model is given in parentheses. Some models are most often called by the nickname. 3. Model Year The model year under the model code shows the approximate year of production. 4, Specifications Major specifications. spark plug type. and tire size are given for the first year of the model, and apply to all the other years unless changes are noted. Refer to the Service Handbooks for further specifications. ». Color Color is one of the most effective means of recognizing the model. Engine and Frame Numbers Engine and Frame Numbers along with the prefix will give you positive identification. The *~" ‘mark following an engine/frame number indicates that the number shown is the first number used for that model end year (Ex: G4E077300 ~). Zeros at the end of the number shaw haw many digits you can expect to find (Ex: G7E500000) 7. Part Numbers of the Parts Catalogue, Owner's Manual, and Service Manual (Shop Manual) These part numbers are given so that the correct parts Catalogue or Manual will be used when servicing the motorcycle or ordering the parts.
