As we all know Jose P.

Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines. He was the one who

led the Filipinos to start a revolution against the Spanish Government to attain freedom and to
gain control of the country. Jose Rizal became the Philippine national hero because he fought
for freedom in a silent but powerful way. He expressed his love for the Philippines through his
novels, essays and articles rather than through the use of force or aggression. Instead he used his
writings to open the eyes of the Filipinos. There is controversy about his retracted letter before of
his execution and in today’s generation it is One of the
most intriguing topic or issue of Jose Rizal the alleged
retraction which was all about his reversion to the
Catholic Faith and all other issues linked to it such as
his marriage to Josephine Bracken.

Rizal really retracted letter, one of the main

reasons is to save his family from executions and at
the same time to marry Josephine Bracken. It stated “I
declare myself a Catholic and in this religion in which
I was born and educated I wish to live and die. I retract
with all my heart whatever in my words, writings,
publications and conduct has been contrary to my
character as son of the Catholic Church.” According to
De Viana, it is not possible that the retraction letter had
been forged because witnesses are present while Rizal
was signing it. Roman Catholic defenders also claimed
that it is true and the handwriting experts concluded a
long time ago that it is genuine. The exact copy of
Rizal’s retracted letter had been received by Fr. Balaguer in the evening immediately preceding
Rizal's execution.
