Betrayal in the City

Coming from a regular paying job to the business world is perhaps one of the most trickiest things.
You face new challenges left right and centre.

However, one thing I learnt deeply in the past 15 or so years in business is the reality of Betrayal.

Many use words like kugonga, kurusha and kuenjoyiwa.

It is so deeply ingrained in the Business world that many insist on writing down everything through a
Lawyer, just to, protect oneself.

The pain of Betrayal has made several people drop out of business. Just like marriage, many enter
into business with idealistic views.

You enter knowing that things are good. You enter with the hope that everyone you deal with is
honest and shares your ideals.... So, when you get dishonesty, your heart breaks, and you get
depressed, and many make radical decisions.

However, one thing I have seen is that many trust too much.

There was once I signed a contract with a big name client in Nairobi. And out of goodwill I visited her
with a friend we are in the same consultancy. Two weeks later I bumped into the friend in the office
of the client smiling. She had offered to do the work for half what I was charging. Just like that, I lost
the client to the friend. Since that episode, I reduced the level of trust.

I can actually write a long story about things I have gone through in the past 15 years.

However, the main thing Today is to remind you that there are guys called Wasaliti everywhere
lurking in the Business world.

There are several ways of dealing with them

1. Walk in the reality that not everyone you walk with means well. Not that you become paranoid
and suspect everyone, but always keep that reality at the back of your mind.

2.Sign Non Disclosure Agreements when you are to move forward with someone. If you are to share
any confidential information, sign, sign and sign.

3. If you are hit by Betrayal, do not focus on it. Rise up, and move on. You are not the first, neither
will you be the last.

4. Always avoid word of mouth contracts, and insist on writing down everything you agree on.

Finally, and most important. Pray for revelation. Ask God to help you separate the wheat from the
chaff.
