Abstract

The Philippines has accepted the phenomenal exodus of Filipino workers overseas. The
Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) have already been considered the new heroes of the land.
Many look up to them not only because of their contributions to the Philippine economy, but
more importantly, because of their unselfish sacrifices. Many Filipinos consider becoming an
OFW, but is it easy to become one? Are Filipinos aspiring to become OFWs brave enough? This
qualitative study explored on the fears of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). It utilized the
interview method to gather relevant data from respondents who are in vacation in the City of
Puerto Princesa, Philippines. The OFWs were selected using the snow ball technique. After
bringing out the themes, the study found out that OFWs fear the possibility of violence,
discrimination, abuse, false accusations, culture shock and the weakening of their family.
