Mental health is a very important component your overall well-being to live a healthy life.

Depression, anxiety, or even everyday stress can compromise your optimum mental health.
While food alone has not been shown to be able to treat any of these states, various nutrients are
available to to help support your mental health!

While further research is needed, studies have found that a diet rich in antioxidants such as
vitamins, minerals, fiber, healthy fats and probiotics have been linked to a better state of mental
health. Fruits and vegetables contain those key vitamins, minerals, and fiber that we need.
Additionally, healthy fats, like omega-3 fatty acids, include fish and seafood, nuts and seeds, and
plant oils like flaxseed, soybean, or canola oils. Probiotics are made up of good bacteria that help
the digestive system stay healthy and working properly. Great sources of probiotics include
yogurt, kombucha, sauerkraut, and some bread and cheeses.

On the flip side, a diet high in processed meats, fried food, and refined cereals, candy, and high-
fat dairy products are likely to make you feel more anxious or depressed. Stick to a well balanced
diet to help your overall health!
