Name of the Experiment: - Study of Kier Boiler M/C.

 Objects:-
Scouring.
Scouring is a process of removing the impurities such as oil, water,
gums, soluble, impurities from the fibre to produce hydrophilic and clean cloth. This is
heart of the wet process applied to the textile material.

 Main Parts:
Parts -

Kier boiler contains a cylindrical tank. There is a false bottom about 18

inches above the base. There is a popper pipe through bottom to top of the tank which
contains steam inlet at the bottom and a curved baffle plate at the top. Kier liquor is
paned through the pipe by a pump from mixture tank. The liquor carrier pipe is attached
with a spreader plate which spread the scour liquior on fabric. Liquor regains heat from
multitubler heater while passing. Besides, kier boiler contain pressure gauge & out let
valve to remove wastage solution.

 Fabric Path:
Path -

The feed fabric is passed from the eye pot and winch roller. Then it is
load into the kier boiler. Before fabric loading, kier boiler is filled with scouring solution
about ½ or 1/3 part of kier. Then fabric is placed the bottom in rope from uniformly by
manually or mechanically. Kier is filled about 80-85% by fabric. It is strictly maintain
that fabric will be immersed in liquor. After completated of fabric loading, steam is
passed. At the first time kier is opened to remove the air from fabric otherwise, cellulose
of cotton will turn into oxycellulose it will cause harm to fabric. After 1 ½ hours or 2
hours the kier closed and after 6 hours the full scouring of fabric will be complete.

 Controlling Points:
Points -

By valve we can controlled the flow of liquid. In mixing tank we can

control the amount of liquid solution. By multi tubular heater we can control the heat and
temp when excess temperature is occurred then by open lid we can control the
temperature of the kier boiler by open that lid.
 Conclusion:-

By this practical we can know how fabric is scouring. But as our M/C
is old we can not practice it properly. As there is no modern M/C we can not know the
function of the modern M/C. But this practical help us to know more thing which will
help us in our professional life.
