Objectives:

• Know what are the type of clauses,


• Identify the clause used in a sentence.
Sentences
-is a group of words that functions as one part of speech and
Clause that includes a subject and a verb.

Types of Clauses
Dependent clause has a subject and a verb but does not express a
complete idea and cannot stand alone as a simple sentence.

Independent clause has a subject and a verb,


expresses a complete idea, and is a complete sentence.
Examples of Dependent CLAUSE
• Mike had a great time in the party last night.
• Because I am hungry.

Examples of Independent CLAUSE


• The soccer game was cancelled.
• Because I am hungry.

SUBORDINATORS
- It has a subject and a verb but it is only a part of a sentence.

After, Although, As, Because, Before, Even though, Even if, If, Since,
Then, Though, Until, When, Where, Whether, While

James ate his lunch as he was very


hungry.

Identify the dependent and independent clause in each

1. You must work hard in order to succeed in life.
