Essay: Answer the following questions in 15 minutes.

1. Write your reflection about the impact of the Pandemic crisis on the Nutritional status

of the Filipino Children? Elaborate your opinion in at least 300 words. (15 points)

Hunger and malnutrition, as well as overweight and obesity, rise in proportion to

poverty, and inequalities in health are closely linked to diet and nutritional profile. Social

isolation measures implemented in several countries to prevent the collapse of health

systems impose new rhythms on people's lives and daily routines in the current COVID-

19 pandemic scenario, implying a reorganization of their vital structure and the

necessary activities for its maintenance and reproduction. Food planning with options

that have some degree of industrial processing is imposed by the restriction of

circulation combined with the obligation to cook food within the home. Among the

expected changes in food consumption models in the isolation diet, there will

undoubtedly be an increase in ultra processed foods, owing to containment measures

altering the dynamics of circulation and local trade of fresh items. Previous outbreaks

have indicated that as an epidemic progresses, it is critical to broaden public health

actions beyond direct clinical management to include basic management concepts and

resource utilization optimization. Individual and community resilience have emerged as

a key resource since the COVID-19 outbreak, while remaining the first line of defense in

emergency planning. In reality, individual and community psychological and behavioral

countermeasures are critical determinants of resilience and the success of public health

initiatives in the face of a pandemic of the magnitude of COVID-19. Individuals'

nutritional status has long been regarded as a predictor of resilience to instability. The

ecology of adversity and resilience shows that significant stressors, such as insufficient

nutrition, can have long-term health consequences. In fact, poor nutrition quality has

been linked to both physical and mental health issues. Optimal nutrition and dietary

intake is a resource that spans the individual, the community, and the globe to have a

global impact. This commentary uses an adapted version of the ecological model of

health behavior to present a framework for action to maintain optimal nutrition at the

individual, community, national, and global levels in order to improve individuals'

physical and mental health in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2. What is your Role as a student nurse in addressing Malnutrition in your community?

Give your insights for at least 300 words. (15 points).

Nursing students are the future health role models; therefore, a thorough assessment of

their nutritional state is vital for the health sector's efficient operation.

The goal is to use the basal metabolic index to assess the nutritional health of nursing

students, as well as to investigate the causes of malnutrition and the causes behind

these causes of malnutrition. Nursing is a profession that saves lives, and nurses play a

vital part in the health-care system. Nursing, being the major component of health-care

delivery, not only deals with individual lives, but also helps to maintain the quality of life

in families and communities. People who are poor are more susceptible to various forms

of malnutrition. Malnutrition also raises health-care expenses, lowers productivity, and

hinders economic growth, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and illness. Nursing

interventions for malnutrition include teaching others about nutritional needs and

developing an eating plan that includes high-calorie, high-protein foods and

supplements, as well as taking into account her food preferences. Encourage frequent,

modest meals. Encourage them to keep a food diary. Teach ways for reducing infection

risks. Eating a healthy, balanced diet is the greatest method to avoid malnutrition. You

should consume a wide range of foods from each of the major food groups, including

lots of fruits and vegetables. Bread, rice, potatoes, and pasta are all examples of starchy

foods. Nurses have the knowledge and obligation to ensure that the dietary needs of

patients and customers are addressed. It is critical to provide nutrition screening and

proper nutrition guidance in order to enhance healthy eating habits and, as a result,

health outcomes. Noncommunicable illnesses are frequently linked to risk factors that

can be changed.

3. Does Nutritional Status of Children Affect Mental, Psychological and Physical growth?

Cite some supporting studies / research pertaining to the above mentioned matter. (15

points).

Feeding is a crucial part of an infant's and young child's existence. It is the focus of

parents' and other caregivers' attention, as well as a source of social connection through

vocal and nonverbal communication. Not only does eating give sustenance, but it also

provides an opportunity for learning. It has an impact on children's physical

development as well as their mental and emotional development. Culture, health, and

temperament all have an impact on the feeding relationship. Undernutrition during

childhood leads children to have less energy and enthusiasm for studying, which has a

negative impact on cognitive development and academic achievement. Normal brain

growth necessitates enough nourishment. Nutrition is especially critical during

pregnancy and infancy, when the brain is forming and establishing the groundwork for

cognitive, motor, and socio-emotional skills development throughout childhood and

adulthood. Children who were malnourished as fetuses and newborns suffer from long-

term behavioral and cognitive problems, including slower language and fine motor

development, lower IQ, and poor school performance, due to insufficient brain growth.

Although healthy nutrition helps a child's cognitive development, psychosocial

stimulation and children's participation in early childhood education are also key factors

in cognitive development. Early childhood feeding experiences have an impact on both

physical and mental health. Because many eating issues begin in childhood, current

research is focusing on identifying the causes of these issues and the effectiveness of

altering various factors. Breastfeeding (choice, initiation, and sustainability), teaching

parents developmentally appropriate feeding methods, and behavioural programs

targeted at specific feeding disorders, such as obesity, failure to thrive, and anorexia

nervosa, have all been the focus of behavioral research in childhood feeding. The ideas

of behavior modification, health promotion, and education were successfully utilized in

each case. Feeding infants and young children is a behavioural event that has an impact

on their development and growth. Early feeding experiences pave the way for healthy

feeding-related behaviors later in childhood and adulthood. Understanding the normal

development of eating behavior in newborns and young children makes it simpler to

discern between difficulties that can be resolved on their own and those that require

additional intervention. Both nutritional content and developmentally appropriate

feeding behaviors are important for parents and other caregivers to understand.

Obesity (particularly in rich nations) and malnutrition (particularly in poor countries) can

only be addressed by a combination of making healthy food available, providing a

knowledge of age-appropriate feeding practices, and supporting families' mental health.

Any recommendations should take into account cultural variances and temperament

differences.

4. Explain the 2021 culmination theme for last Nutrition Month. (10 points).

The 47th Nutrition Month will be held in July 2021, with the subject "Malnutrisyon

Patuloy na Labanan, First 1000 Days Tutukan!" The topic encourages everyone to focus

their efforts on the first 1000 days of life as a strategic intervention to prevent stunting

and obesity. The 2021 Nutrition Month theme calls for continued efforts to address

malnutrition in the country which is expected to worsen as a result of the pandemic and

limited resources for nutrition.
