There are many islands in the South Pacific. These are tropical islands. The
weather is warm all year round. The trees on the island are coconuts palms. They
are very useful because they grow well in sandy and salty places near the seashore
where other kinds of trees can’t grow. The coconuts give food. The islanders can
dry the nuts and sell them to make oil. They can also use the trunks of the trees for
building and the leaves for making roofs for their houses.
Oceans and seas cover more than half the Earth’s surface. Many different
plants and creatures live in the sea. There are also coral reefs. They grow near the
coasts in tropical seas. Tiny creatures build coral reefs in beautiful shapes and
colours. Many different kinds of fish and other sea creatures make their home in
the reefs.

The children are in a pet shop. They are trying to buy a present for Jane’s
birthday.
Chris: Look! What a nice parrot! It has great colours and it can say a few
words.
Mike: Right! But it is too big. Look at that gold fish: it is small, it can swim
fast and the colour is fantastic.
Maria: You are right. But I think Jane would prefer rabbits. They are very
friendly and you can play with them.
Children: ok. Let’s buy the rabbit.
I love the country. There are some good things about living in a village in
the country. It is more beautiful and it is cleaner because there are not many cars
and buses. I go to my grand-parents every summer. They have got a lovely house
and a big garden in the country. Grandpa works in the fields and grandma looks
after her chickens, ducks and other animals. I have a lot of friends in the village
and we go to the river in the afternoon. It is nice to have grand-parents in the
country-side.
