Good morning everyone, today we the members of group 3 are going to

present on the topic of traditional mentoring vs e-mentoring

Traditional mentoring was defined by Kathy Kram in her thesis and

subsequent publications as
"developmental assistance provided by a more experienced organizational
member in the form of career & personal guidance”

The two major subparts of traditional mentoring are:

Career guidance, which consists of
sponsorship,coaching,protection,exposure,challenge
And Personal Guidance, which consists of
Role modelling,counselling,acceptance,confirmation and friendship

Although the definition doesn’t mention a medium of interaction between

the mentor and the mentee, it can be speculated that Kathy Kram was
hinting at a physical interaction between the involved parties.

E-mentoring has been defined by Akin & Hilbern as an amalgamation

of traditional mentoring with electronic communication that allows for
mentoring process to take place independent of geography or scheduling
conflicts

E-mentoring is gaining popularity in modern times and many firms have

turned to its practice for their mentoring programs especially during the
pandemic

Studies have shown that E-mentoring can provide psychological benefits

like self-esteem enhancement and confidence building to the protege
similar to what successful traditional mentoring processes can.

However, e-mentoring can be perceived as a double-edged sword as with

remote mentoring comes the cons of language and cultural barriers as well
as heavy dependence on technology.
