Module 2 Lesson 1 Mastery Assignment - Beta

Complete the following chart. All atoms on this chart are neutral. Isotopes
examples have been included, so an element may appear more than once.

1. Element Y has two isotopes. The first isotope has a natural abundance of
80% and has a mass of 30 amu. The second isotope has a natural
abundance of 20% and has a mass of 25 amu. Is the average mass
going to be closer to 30 or 25 amu and why? 25, because that is the
natural one.

2. Calculate the average atomic mass of an element that has an isotope with
a mass of 81 amu (34.09% abundance) and another isotope with a mass
of 85 (65.91% abundance). Round to the hundredths place. What is this
element? Make sure to prove this with your math calculations. ????
