Should governments spend more money on improving roads and highways, or should governments

spend more money on improving public transportation (busses, trains, subways)

There are those who consider that investing in better roads and highways
would globally improve the quality of life, whilst others assert that public
transportation is more ecological and space conserving. This essay will
examine both sides of the issue. However, I am personally more inclined
towards public transport as the better choice.

On the one hand, modern roads play a crucial role in today’s society, public
access is essential for businesses all around the globe. You can’t possibly
imagine life without highways and asphalted roads. The supply of water and
food would be rather difficult and most companies would lose stock value.
Moreover, myriad accidents would be avoided by repairing the roads.
Consequently, improved roads and highways tend to raise the quality of life.

On the other hand, there are a growing number of people who believe that
public transport reduces consistently air pollution. More busses, means less
cars, less toxicity among drivers and no more traffic jams, thus killing two
birds with one stone :) Trolleys, trams, metros and trains are a popular choice
for cheap and quick travelling. The government should focus on making public
transport more accessible for all classes of society. For example, if more
busses are displayed in the poor regions of a country, more kids would attend
school, thus lowering unemployment rates.

In conclusion, both highways and public transport has it’s perks as listed
above, but the cited evidence provides strong support for the side of public
transport.
