In my opinion, the simple practice of communicating with family and friends
nowadays is easier than in our grandparent’s time, from all the points of view. Firstly, if we take in consideration the old times, the letters were the first method people used to communicate in cases they could not meet face to face. Nowadays, people invented a revolutionary method for this, represented by the communication through e-mails. These are more efficient and people can use them anywhere and anytime. Sending e-mails is also a lot faster than writing a letter, as people used to handwrite every single word on a piece of paper, and then send them to a post office, to deliver it. Now, anybody can write an e-mail by just tapping letters on their mobile phone’s screen, and everything is easier, thanks to the new technology. Secondly, if we consider the vocal communication, in cases people are not able to see each other face to face, we can also see an improvement in technology. In our grandparent’s time, people used to talk to each other using the typical telephone that belongs to a certain spot in everybody’s house. These days we can use a mobile phone for this type of communication with friends and family, no matter where we are at a certain time. In comparison with the old times, we can see many improvements that help us communicate faster and more efficient, including the fact that nowadays social media has been invented. Sending a simple SMS can save a lot of time and it is undoubtedly more practical than e-mails, because the formal and old-fashioned version needs more specifications about the consignee, before tapping the send button. Another thing that is necessary to be mentioned as a particular aspect about this type of communication is that there is no need to be a formal language, as in the most e-mails. In conclusion, nowadays communication with friends and family is definitely more efficient, in comparison with the methods used in our grandparents’ time, thanks to the new technology appeared, which includes the existence of the mobile phones, the e-mails and the social media.
