The diagram represents the lifecycle of a silkworm which makes the raw material for the

manufacturing of silk cloth.

A silkworm completes their lifecycle through four stages, from the reproduction stage to the complete
development of the new silk moth. The cocoon is formed during the later stages of the lifecycle from
which silk thread is manufactured.

The first stage of the silkworm’s lifecycle begins with the laying of eggs by the silkworm. The larva is
hatched from these eggs in just 10 days. These silkworm larvae consume mulberry leaves as their food.
In about four to six weeks, a thin cover is formed around the larva which is the first form of silk thread.
During the next three to eight days, this cover is thickened to develop into a cocoon. The fully
developed silk moth emerges from the cocoon in just over 2 weeks. The lifecycle continues as the silk
moth further lays eggs.
