“What makes an effective helper?

As a human being, I am a firm believer that there is always good in people. For
me, it is the very reason as to why we always offer and give help to others. A good
helper is empathetic, this attribute gives us the ability to understand how others are
feeling — walking in one's shoes. In this case, being open-minded comes next because
it will be able to help us respond appropriately to someone we wish to help and not
sound like being subjective. Truth be told, we have our own reasons why we help
people, but we must keep in mind that being genuine when we are helping people is
one of the many characteristics that we should possess. Genuineness is also being
authentic in helping others, that as a good helper, we must be sincere and not just give
help to others for the sake of validation or attention. As a good helper, our willingness to
help should come from within, from our own principles and values. It is giving without
expecting anything in return. A good helper does not need to brag, because they are
confident, and that they do something that truly matters, regardless of how many people
notice or appreciate them. A good helper does not feel the need to intentionally impress
others. In addition, a good helper is firmly grounded in reality. A truly grounded person is
a good helper that helps others by showing that no matter what happens, there will
always be light at the end of the tunnel, especially during tough times. A good helper
does not need everything to be about themselves, and that they enjoy helping others to
reach their full potential. Lastly, the attitude that if doing something the right way alone,
so be it.
