05-Create Metadata Models in IBM Cognos BI Prtaty ny eee aunt Purpose: You want to examine the top-level objects and the different logical development layers of a Framework Manager model, publish a package from Framework Manager, create a report based on that package, and explore the Framework Manager user interface. Task 1. Examine the Framework Manager UI and objects. vel w the top: 1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\cognos\c1 0\webcontentisamples\models\great_outdoors_sales. The results appear as follows: Name (© customdataami Ly great outdoors sales cpf [2 modelam! Preferencesxml Here you see the project files for a Framework Manager model. The cpffile is the main project file. The xml files store model information, including preferences, session Jogging, and action logging (each modeling action you make). 2. From the Start menu, click All Programs > IBM Cognos 10 > IBM Cognos Framework Manager. 3. Click Open a project, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\cognos\c10\webcontentisamples\models\great_outdoors_sales, and then double-click great_outdoors_sales.cpf 4. Log on as admin\Education1. The top-level objects are the go_sales namespace (which contains model objects), a Data Sources folder (which contains the data sources used in the project), a Parameter Maps folder (which contains parameter maps that allow for data substitution at run time), and a Packages folder (which contains packages that are Published to the IBM Cognos portal to make metadata available to authors). 5. In the Project Viewer pane, expand Data Sources, click gosales, and then in the Properties pane, expand Type. Notice the Query Type property indicates this is a relational source. Repeat step 5 to identify that all the data sources are relational ° 177 Overview of IBM Cognos BI (v10.2.2) 7. Expand the gosales namespace. Notice that there are a number of namespaces that divide the objects by type and function, For example, the Database view namespace contains representations of the underlying database structures. The Filters and calculations namespace contains filters and calculations that are used throughout the Framework Manager project. Task 2. View the det: 1. Expand Database view > gosales. objects. The gosales namespace contains all the data source query subjects created during the import process from the database as well as model query subjects that are used to alias original data source query subjects or are used to create views (merge query subjects together to create "As View" behavior) of original data source query subjects. 2. Expand SALES TARGET. Many of the data source query subjects (such as SALES_TARGET) are untouched after being imported, This is recommended to make maintenance easier. 3. Expand the Model query subjects (gosales) folder, and then expand Products. This is a model query subject that is the result of merging data source query subjects together to create "As View" behavior. Query items to be used by authors have been given user-friendly names, where necessary. 4. Expand Filters and calculations. This namespace contains several commonly-requested calculations (such as Returns total value) and filters to allow maintenance from a single source. 5. Expand Business view. This namespace contains model query subjects and shortcuts to model query subjects. It provides a consistent presentation where all objects simply act as containers to consolidate information from the underlying databases. Authors will work with these objects directly or indirectly. 6. Expand Dimensional view. Here you can see dimensions and measures based on objects in the Database view. Dimensional information (hierarchies, levels, attributes, and so on) is provided in this view. These objects can be used for OLAP-style queries in tools like Cognos Workspace Advanced 7. Scroll to the top of the pane, and then under go_sales, expand Inventory (analysis) and Inventory (query). Here you can see two namespaces structured the way the authors will see them, one for analysis, and the other for queries and reports. 178 05-Create Metadata Models in IBM Cognos BI 8. Expand Returned items (query), Sales (query), and Sales target (query). These namespaces contain logical groupings of objects within the Model query subjects (goretailers) folders, These folders are in the namespaces within the Database view (such as gosales). The namespaces have some overlapping model query subjects (conformed dimensions). To create multi-fact queries across these areas of the business, simply include, at a minimum, one conformed dimension Task 3. Publish a package and view it as a report author. 1. Atthe bottom of the pane, expand Packages, right-click GO Sales (query), and then click Publish Packages. 2. Click Next, click Next, and then clear the Verify the package before publishing check box. 3. Click Publish, click Yes if prompted, and then click Finish. 4. Open Internet Explorer, and then navigate to http:/Mocalhost:88/ibmcognos. 5. Log on as admin\Education1. 6. Click Author business reports, and then click GO Sales (query) 7. Click Create new, and then double-click List A blank list appears in IBM Cognos Workspace Advanced. 8. Inthe right pane, on the Source tab, expand Sales (query) and Returned items (query). Notice this is the same structure and grouping seen in the model structure shown in Task 2, step 8. 9. Add the following items to the report: Query Subject Query Item Retumed items (query). Products Product line Returned items (query). Time Year Sales (query).Sales Revenue Returned items (query). Returned items Return quantity 179 Overview of IBM Cognos BI (v10.2.2) 10. lick the Product line column, and then on the toolbar, lick Group / Ungroup|E_! Close IBM Cognos Workspace Advanced without saving. 12.On the Welcome to IBM Cognos Software page, click Log Off, and then close Internet Explorer. 180 05-Create Metadata Models in IBM Cognos BI Task 4. Examine different views of the user interface. 1. In Framework Manager, in the Project Viewer pane, double-click the go_sales namespace. In the middle pane, ensure the Explorer tab is selected. This display provides a flat view of the contents of the project, as opposed to the hierarchical view of objects provided in the Project Viewer pane. You can double-click items in this view to see child objects. Click the Diagram tab, This view graphically displays all of objects in the project and how they are related to each other. From the Diagram menu, click Expand All The hierarchy of objects in the project is expanded (if it isn't already). In this view, you can access, modify, and create objects and relationships. You can resize the diagram as necessary. In the Project Viewer pane, under the Database view > gosales namespace, right- click SALES_REGION, and then click Launch Context Explorer. The Context Explorer window opens. You can see all the query subjects to which the SALES_REGION query subject is directly related, as well as the cardinalities of those relationships. In the Context Explorer window, right-click the COUNTRY query subject header, point to Navigate Diagram, and then click Show Related Objects. COUNTRY receives the focus, and you can now see all the query subjects to which COUNTRY is directly related, as well as maintaining the query subjects that are related to SALES_REGION Close Context Explorer, and then in the Tools pane on the right, click the Search tab. The Search pane replaces the Summary pane in the user interface. You can perform a search to quickly find objects and then change their properties. You can apply different criteria that describe the object you want to search for. You can either search for the object name alone, or add additional criteria, such as location, class, or condition. In the Search string box, type product. If additional search lists do not appear below the Search string box, click the Switch between a compact or a full feature view of the search options|“| button, In the full feature view, more options for specifying search criteria appear. 181 Overview of IBM Cognos BI (v10.2.2) 10. In the Condition list, click begins with, leave the default value selected in the Search in box (go_sales), and then in the Class list, click Query Item. 11. Click Search. The search is performed and a list of objects matching the search criteria was found. 12, Click the first match found in the list, and then click the Object column header. The list is sorted alphabetically, and all instances of this item are grouped together. ‘You can now set properties for the selected query item using the Properties pane. 13. Close IBM Cognos Framework Manager without saving changes. Results: You examined the top-level objects and the different logical development layers of a Framework Manager model, published a package from Framework Manager, created a report based on that package, and explored the Framework Manager user interface. 182
