As this article shows, the Philippines is experiencing significant environmental deterioration,
mostly in the form of deforestation, soil erosion, hydrological system disturbance, overfishing,
coral reef devastation, and species extinction. These issues are exacerbated by the stresses of a
big, rapidly rising, and impoverished population, and they may soon be exacerbated further by
climate change as a result of the global 'greenhouse effect.' Furthermore, as this research
demonstrates, environmental deterioration has widespread and significant economic
consequences—as one might anticipate in a country where numerous important sectors of
development are dependent on natural resources. Indeed, in the long run, environmental
deterioration may probably obstruct the Philippines' potential for long-term prosperity.

Water pollution is defined as the presence in groundwater of toxic chemicals and biological
agents that exceed what is naturally found in the water and may pose a threat to human health
and/or the environment. Additionally, water pollution may consist of chemicals introduced into
the water bodies as a result of various human activities. Any amount of those chemicals pollutes
the water, regardless of the harm they may pose to human health and the environment. The main
water pollutants include bacteria, viruses, parasites, fertilizers, pesticides, pharmaceutical
products, nitrates, phosphates, plastics, fecal waste and even radioactive substances. These
substances do not always change the color of the water, meaning that they are often invisible
pollutants. That's why small amounts of water and aquatic organisms are tested to determine
water quality. Contaminated water can harbor bacteria, such as those responsible for diarrhea,
cholera, dysentery, typhoid, hepatitis A, and polio.

Ways to Prevent Water Pollution
1. Wastewater treatment
Wastewater treatment consists of removing pollutants from wastewater through a physical,
chemical, or biological process. The more efficient these processes are, the cleaner the water
becomes.
2. Green agriculture
Globally, agriculture accounts for 70% of water resources, so it is essential to have climate-
friendly crops, efficient irrigation that reduces the need for water and energy-efficient food
production. Green agriculture is also crucial to limit the chemicals that enter the water.
3. Stormwater management
Stormwater management is the effort to reduce runoff of rainwater or melted snow into streets,
lawns and other sites and the improvement of water quality” according to the US Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). It is important to avoid pollutants from contaminating the water and
helps to use water more efficiently.
5. Water conservation
Without water conservation, we won’t go very far. It is central in making sure the world has
better access to clean water. It means being aware that water is a scarce resource, taking care of it
accordingly, and managing it responsibly.

The intentional clearance of wooded area is known as deforestation. Forests have been destroyed
throughout history and into current times to make room for agriculture and animal grazing, as
well as to gather wood for fuel, manufacture, and construction. Deforestation has had a
significant impact on landscapes all around the world. Habitat destruction, biodiversity loss, and
aridity have all occurred from tree removal without adequate replanting. Extinction, climate
shifts, desertification, and population displacement are all consequences of deforestation, as
evidenced by contemporary conditions and the fossil record. Deforestation also affects
atmospheric carbon dioxide bio sequestration, generating negative feedback loops that contribute
to global warming. By removing forests for agricultural use and lowering arable land in general,
global warming puts additional strain on people seeking food security. Other environmental
repercussions of deforested areas are often severe, such as unfavorable soil erosion and
deterioration into wasteland. Human food systems' resilience and its impact. Biodiversity is
linked to the resilience of human food systems and their ability to adapt to future change,
including desert-adapted shrub and tree species, forest-dwelling insects, bats, and bird species
that pollinate crops, trees with extensive root systems in mountain ecosystems that prevent soil
erosion, and mangrove species that provide resilience against flooding in coastal areas. The
importance of forests in absorbing and storing carbon and reducing climate change is critical for
the agricultural sector, as climate change is amplifying the risks to food systems.
1. Plant a tree
The most straightforward personal strategy to fight against deforestation is to plant a tree.
Planting a tree could be considered a lifelong investment into the environment and your
good mental health.
You may have noticed a little label “made from recycled paper” on your new notebook. The
same label can be found on many other daily use items like books, paper bags, egg packaging
and even toilet paper.
While a small amount of palm oil may be sustainably produced, the majority comes from
recently cleared land. Palm oil production has become one of the main causes of tropical
rainforest destruction around the world today.
To produce the same amount of protein from animal agriculture requires much larger areas of
land compared to plant-based farming.
7. Practice eco-forestry
Eco-forestry is a restorative method of forest management, which is not based on economic
productivity. In this practice, certain trees are selectively harvested while causing minimal
damage to the rest of the forest.
8. Raise awareness
Major environmental problems such as deforestation often continue to occur because of a lack
of awareness and knowledge about the problem.

I. Objectives:
To improve the quality of environment
To create an awareness among the people on environmental problems and conversation.
To create an atmosphere so that people participate in decision making and develop the
capabilities to evaluate the developmental programs.
