CLASS -VIII SCIENCE PROJECT

DIY Snow Globe


Materials you will need to make your own snow globe:
 Plastic snow globe (round bottle)/ Small glass jar
 glitter 
 Small snowflake glitter
 Small silver or iridescent sequins
 Small snowmen or other toy or decorative item to add inside the lid
 Glycerin
 Distilled water/Cold water
 Hot glue
 Food colouring as per your choice

Directions:
1. Safety first! Put on your Apron to prevent your clothes from staining
and safety goggles!
2. Place your empty globe/ jar on a table. You may want to put a tray or
disposable tablecloth down as this experiment can be messy!
3. pour water in the globe/jar
4. You can use food coloring to dye the water, then add glycerine and
few droplets of vegetable oil.
5. Add glitter dust and sequins and mix the different liquids .
6. On the next step glue the decorative/ toy with a hot glue on the lid of
the jar.
7. Then close the jar with the lid.

The Science Behind the Experiment:


 Density is how much matter is packed into a space.
 Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.
 When liquids have different densities, they do not mix and we are
able to stack them on top of each other.
 The objects added to the liquids also have different densities so
they will also sink or float based on how their densities compare to
the liquids.
 It does not matter what order you pour the liquids or drop the
items in- they will always end up in the same place because of
their densities!
