People all around the world hold different views about the responsibility of preserving the

environment. Some claim that the government should take all the necessary actions while
others are in favour of the small changes each and every one of us can make. From my point
of view, it would be more beneficial if both the country’s authorities and individuals share
the responsibility and thus make everyone aware of their role regarding this issue.

First of all, it is undeniable that each person can play an important role in protecting their
own neighborhood for example. Cars are considered to be a major source of air pollution.
Their exhaust gases contaminate the air, ranging from carbon dioxide to unburnt carbon.
Therefore, by using their own vehicles only in rare cases, people would be able to protect the
environment. For instance, traffic has been restricted in the centre of Paris, therefore
improving the air quality with a percentage of 5.

Second of all, the government plays a vital role in maintaining the environment safe. It is the
authorities that should introduce the legislation in order to mitigate environmental
problems, such as air pollution and more. To illustrate, there should be some laws
encouraging factories to move to the countryside rather than staying in cities. This could
help urban areas to be further protected from the poisonous fumes, which are always
discharged from firms.

On the other hand, it has been argued that common activities such as recycling, reducing
water waste and switching to energy-efficient light bulbs really can really make a big enough
difference since the situation is already out of control. But in fact, if millions of people
decided to make a few small changes, the impact could literally save the world.

All in all, varied as their opinions may be, humans should be reminded that there is a mutual
interdependence between us and the environment and that we are also part of it. Isn’t the air
we breathe a ticket to life itself?
