Note on case histories
Case histories are included to clarify the application
of acupuncture. We have divided these case studies
into three categories:
Level 1
A simple intervention, either Western medical acu-
puncture or TCM, aimed at changing a single symp-
tom, i.e. pain, numbness, nausea. This will be
written in a relatively brief format.
Level 2
Describing a more complex or chronic situation
where it has been necessary to look at the
underlying problems, again either Western medicine
or TCM. This is likely to involve a relatively short
treatment period, and may be suitable for additional
courses of treatment. These cases will provide more
detail of the patient’s condition.
Level 3
These will be written in more detail, describing
long-term treatment of a complex situation requir-
ing the mix of Western medicine and TCM clinical
reasoning for success.
