YEAR 7 GEOGRAPHY
WEATHER PROJECT

TOPIC: Measuring and Recording Local Weather Patterns

MARKS: 100

TASK:

1. Based on the work you have done in class on weather instruments, you are to design at
least two weather instruments to be used in this project.

2. Over a period of 8 consecutive days you are to record and collect weather readings on at
least 4 elements of the weather.

3. Write a report on your findings which covers the following headings:

o AIM – A brief statement of the elements of the weather that you have chosen to study and
the outcomes you aim to achieve
(5 marks)

o DESCRIPTION OF THE EXPERIMENT – an outline of the methods you used to collect the
data, how often measurements were taken, where the instruments were situated and how
you recorded your findings.
(15 marks)

o INSTRUMENT DESIGN – a list of steps followed in the construction of your instruments


including materials used and a labelled diagram of the finished design.
(20 marks)

o INSTRUMENT CONSTRUCTION – completed instruments are to be included as part of the


report.
(10 marks)

o TABLE OF RESULTS – a record of your results over the 8 days set out in an organised
fashion to allow discussion of findings, a brief outline of the main trends in the information
recorded.
(10 marks)

o GRAPHING RESULTS – a series of graphical representations of your results over the 8


days.
(20 marks)

o DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS – a general summary of the trends that you observed over the
8 days with some mention of possible influences.
(10 marks)

o PRESENTATION, ORGANISATION AND LAYOUT – the assignment is to be written up as


a report using the key headings given on the task sheet.
