TOPIC DISCUSSION
In physical world, energy is an important quantity to do work. There are two major
forms of energy: the kinetic energy – energy in motion and potential energy – stored energy.
Study the figure shown.
A chemical energy is stored in a compound and other forms matter like the foods you eat.
This compound may interact with another compound during chemical reaction, releasing
some energy. This released energy can be in the form of biochemical, thermal, or electrical. In
this example, there is a conversion of energy from chemical to other forms of energy. Take
note that during chemical reaction, there is no energy created nor destroyed. This principle is
called the Law of Conservation of Energy. For the next module, you will learn chemical
reactions leading to batteries and other changes in matter.
