ESSAY

Food is present in many areas of our lives and is considered a central element of everyday life.
However, food is not only something we eat, as it also fulfils other functions. Indeed, both texts
talk about how food is presented in meals as an ideal ingredient to strengthen relationships. Food
helps to improve social life, but, as we have seen in the texts, it could work from different points
of view.
The first text discusses the importance of meals to unify family and friendships. In fact, the
author states that warmth, security, and affection, as well as emotions of belonging, are fostered
by eating meals together. As well as being a unifying power, food also plays an important role in
the traditions and cultures of many countries. In particular we refer to those societies that use
food as a way of reflecting their national sentiment, as a cultural identifier, which makes them
feel closer to their country.
The second text, contrary to the first one, starts by highlighting the disadvantages of food as a
generator of health problems, subsequent to the increase of fast food. The author of the second
text remarks his concern about the loss of satisfaction for not cooking fresh food. This
pleasurable experience is the perfect way to show our loved ones affection, as it takes a lot of
effort behind it.
In conclusion, food is no longer just a form of nourishment but a way of relating. To my mind,
although the two texts deal with the subject from a different point of view, they have quite
interesting points of connection in terms of the importance of food, which must always be made
with affection.

You have got the key ideas from the texts quite well and organised your writing effectively. In
places your paraphrasing is too close to the original. There are also some vocabulary choices that
could be improved to express your meaning more clearly and precisely.
