Traffic Essay

Traffic:a nightmare shared by drivers in a hurry! It is a common scene

in big cities like Lagos, New York, and Manila where vehicles are racing on
the roads every second. However, traffic congestion is not only an issue in
megacities, for even fast developing cities like those found in the Middle
East. For example, managing the massive influx of cars entering the
market. There are several main causes for traffic congestion in Oman such
as poor road management, poor practices on behalf of employers and lack
of adequate public transportation alternatives.

The first main cause of Oman’s traffic is due to the continuous

changes of the road systems. With cities continuing to grow, the driving
routes are changing and more roads being blocked. This removal of
already limited road spaces to build shopping malls and more housing
developments threaten easy driving on the roads. Moreover, It can cause
drivers to become confused about the newly developed roads.

The second main reason for Oman’s traffic problem relates to the
old practices of employers. There is a greater possibility of congestion if
people stick to the same schedules. For instance, due to no introduction of
more flexible work hours, every day, everyone must commute to and from
work at the same hour. Consequently, as the number of cars increases the
chance of congestion also increases. In addition, the adult population is
increasing and therefore more people want their own personal transport to
get around with.

The last main cause for Oman’s traffic problem is the lack of public
transportation, or inadequate public transportation alternatives, will also
cause issues. People are compelled to drive to work if there aren't enough
buses, trams, or local trains. On the other hand, commuters are often
pushed away from public transportation as increasing fare rates make
driving a car with its associated high fuel costs less expensive than taking
public transportation..
In conclusion, traffic congestion is mostly caused by people's desire
to use their vehicles, while at the same time having inadequate road
alternatives. Congestion in large cities could be reduced if cities invested in
cheaper public transportation choices and better infrastructure.
