The “Dia do Bolinho” is a popular day that is celebrated in Portugal, which
is something similar to Halloween, because children go from door to door
asking people for sweets. It is celebrated on the 1st of November. Before the day, there are the preparations, people buy sweets to give to the children who pass by their house. Even some people decorate their homes religiously, relating to the day. During the celebration, in the morning, groups of children get together, each one with their bag where they keep their sweets, walk around their village asking for the “bolinho”, that is, sweets, money, etc. Afterwards, the families have lunch together. On this day, when I was younger, I was very happy on this day, because I received money and candy for free, I was with my friends having fun and I also loved hanging out with my family. Memories were created in those days that I will never forget.
