ZXSDR BS8922 Product Description

1 Product Overview

1.1 Introduction

With the multi-mode era coming, ZTE, who is dedicated to providing comprehensive
network solutions and delivering the future-oriented quality network for the operators,
developed the ground breaking SDR unified platform with the essential feature to support
multi-mode and multi-band radio access.

Based on this innovative SDR platform, ZTE promotes a series of base stations to satisfy
different scenario requirements, including Indoor Macro, Outdoor Macro, Distributed,
Outdoor Micro, and Mini BTS.

With the developing of mobile communication, high quality networks have to be built up
to meet growing requirements. Hot spot, indoor and rural area coverage should be taken
into consideration. At the same time, telecom operators are facing challenges in
equipment room, engineering and noise pollution. As a compact BTS, ZXSDR BS8922 is
hence designed to meet these requirements.

Integrated design and MCPA make it small volume, high density, high capacity and low
power consumption. It can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications with IP65
protection. The unit can be mounted against walls, or on poles or masts.

Single unit supports up to 4 carriers with 2*2 MIMO by adopting MCPA technology. Its
appearance is shown in the following figure.

ZXSDR BS8922 Product Description

1.2 Benefits

 Compact Design, Light Weight, Easy Installation

BS8922 is about 7L/8kg, easy to transport and install. It can be mounted on the pole,
against the wall, on the tower top, etc. No dedicated equipment space is required,
easy for site acquisition and fast network deployment.

 Easy Expansion

By MCPA, it can be conveniently expanded from 1 to 4 carriers with 2*2 MIMO by

software. The maximal 2*5W TOC power and close to antenna installation improve
the coverage. The TOC output power can be set from 2*500mW to 2*5W according
to different coverage requirements.

 Green Node B

BS8922 supports Doherty, DPD and MCPA technologies in power amplifier module
which provides high PA efficiency. High efficiency MCPA, natural cooling and high
density design reduce the power consumption. Zero noise pollution makes it easy
for indoor installation and site acquisition.

 Adaptable to Various Transmission Network

BS8922 provides FE/GE interface for Iub connection, supporting IP transmission

network. It also supports other transmission modes such as WI-FI and xPON with
external modules.

1.3 Application Scenarios

BS8922 is the UMTS outdoor micro base station. It is also connected with RRUs for
extending the coverage. With all IP architecture, ultra small size and low power
consumption, BS8922 meets remote area coverage requirements with cleanness,
convenience, efficiency and low cost. BS8922 can be easily installed against the wall,
hung on the pole or tower or placed on the roof.

1.3.2 Scenario 2: Outdoor Micro Base Station Cascaded with RRUs

Solution

When there is the need for extending the outdoor coverage greatly, one outdoor micro
base station BS8922 is cascaded with RRUs (e.g. R8862), as shown in the following
figure. The RRU can be cascaded with other RRUs, with the distance reaching 40Km in 4
levels at the farthest.
