• Character is the summary
statement of specific actions.
• Character is action; he exists
in his actions esp. during
pressing circumstances.
• Simple and Complex
Characters.
• Character is revelation.
They don’t change, they
unfold.

PLAY ANALYSIS (DIRECTOR’S PRIMARY STUDY)


Profile of the Character:
In order to describe the character in a play, it
must be analysed according to the following:

• Desire: revenge
• Will: extremely high
• Moral Stance: No moral compass
• Decorum: agitated and sensitive
• Summary list of adjectives: suspicious, loner, secretive.
• Character-mood intensity: extremely high

V. Idea

• It is the core meaning of what


it has to say.
• Idea is derived from an
assessment of characters in
action.
• Find the Idea of the Play by its
TITLE and PHILOSOPHICAL
STATEMENT OF THE PLAY.
• Example:
• New Yorker in Tondo
• Sa Pula, Sa Puti

VI. Moods:

• They are the feelings or


emotions generated from
the clash of forces in the
dramatic action.
• Moods are the tonal feelings
of a play.
• To describe the moods, use
mood adjectives and mood
methapors.

VIII. Tempos:

• They are the changing


rates or beats of dramatic
action in a play.
• A play is very much like a
dance-drama set to music.

IX. Tone:

• It is the achievement of
the appropriate moods in
a playscript.
• Tone is what the director
is striving for, because it
is what the playwright felt
when he improvised his
play.
