1. The Author:
1.1. Background and qualifications
Robert Kiyosaki is a famous book writer known for his best-selling book worldwide “Rich
dad, Poor dad”. He’s a media personality, an author, and an entrepreneur who is often
found to be talking about financial literacy (Famous entrepreneurs, 2021).
In 1947, Robert Kiyosaki was born on Hawaii Island, Hawaii. He earned a bachelor's
degree in science from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. During the
Vietnam War, he joined the Marine Corps and worked as a helicopter gunship pilot
(Silva, D., 2020).
1.2. Writing style
The book has been written in first-person perspective where Robert Kiyosaki is telling
his life lessons and early life struggles.
1.3. Author’s purpose of writing the book
Robert Kiyosaki’s purpose behind writing this book is to spread the financial knowledge
among the young students who unfortunately are not taught the value of multiplying
wealth.

3. Introduction
“Rich dad, Poor dad” is the best-selling book based on personal finance. The book
narrates the life lessons of Robert Kayosaki that he learnt in his journey of establishing
his own business. The four main characters that discussed in the book are Robert, his
best friend Mike and Robert’s two dads. Robert calls his biological father the poor dad
because he had all the necessary qualifications and degree but never owned wealth
except for monthly salary while he calls Mike’s father the rich dad even though the rich
dad was dropped out of school yet he knew the art of converting his money into passive
income. This book narrates how both the dads shaped Robert’s mindset and taught him
the importance of financial literacy. As per the author today’s institutes have failed to
teach students the difference between liabilities and assets. We call our homes, cars
and other luxury items our assets but in reality these are the liabilities that gives more of
our money to the state in the form of fuel taxes and taxes on bills etc.

4. Favorite part of the book

My favorite part of the book is “Why the rich pay less in taxes?” for it explains how the
middle class are focused to work for money without realizing that a bigger chunk of their
incomes goes to the state through several taxes on the goods. Typically, when states
claim to tax the rich it means to tax the “middle-class” because they lack the art of
converting the money into passive income. After reading this I have realized how
investing money in assets is important for us to generate more money and make our
money work for us. For instance, investing in a potential business, or buying an asset
that doubles the production far from splashing out money on modern transport that asks
for more taxes in the name of fuel, maintenance and other expenditures.

5. Why would I recommend this book to students?

Pondering upon the current education system that pays more attention on acquiring
grades than on life skills, I would recommend this book to students so they could
evaluate why learning investing skills, building assets, and looking up for opportunities
is better than the acquisition of high grades in schools.
