My home town: Tulcea

Tulcea is my home town and although is a small city, it is

pretty cool. The thing that I dislike the most is that we don’t have
McDonald’s but I can live with that.
The oldest traces of habitation in the city date from about 5
to 6000 years ago. By the years 600-500 B.C there was also a
Getic fortress, witch had continuity even after the Roman
conquest that occurred after the end of the reign of King
Burebista around 44 B.C.
Between 1840 and 1859 the town was populated with settelers of German origin,
known as Dobrogean Germans. Most left the town in 1940, being forcibly relocated to Nazi
Germany.
After World War II, the city expaned and modernized. Currently, the heath of the city
reaces an area of 1150 km2 and a population of 93,051 inhabitants (in 2002).
Tulcea is a modern city, a port for passenger ships, as well as for those transporting
industrial products especially raw materials and ocean fishing ships. Tulcea country is
located in such a nature that is accessible from the sea and the Danube by sea ships, having
a great commercial advantage.
Tulcea is an important industrial center – here constructions and repairs of ships are
carried out. Also her is the only producer of calcinded alumina in the country and reed
exploitation center.
