The Theory of Everything

All things have their beginning, just like how the bible explained the existence of the
Earth. How the scientists explained the evolution. In the beginning of the movie, it is observed
how Stephen Hawking is peculiar from his colleagues. He stands out from the rest of the
scholars because of the way he acts. He did not believe in any religion or supreme being.
Throughout his years, he discovered that his nerves are slowly degenerating because of the
motor neuron disease which affects his body and having the disability to control his extremities.
He felt devastated by the knowledge that he will expire within 2 years. Despite the illness that he
is suffering, his girlfriend chose to marry him and fight with him through the ups and downs.
They got married and had children while continuing his research and discovery. Through the
years, his wife became his mouth, hands and feet in contributing to scientific discoveries.

The characters in the movie are Stephen Hawking that was given life by Eddie
Redmayne, Felicity Jones for Jane Wilde, David Thewlis for Dennis Sciama, and Charlie Cox as
Jonathan Jones. The setting of the movie is in Cambridge, it is also set up in a way that it looks
like the 1960s. It varies from school, church, and house. It can be observed in the movie that the
filters used are inclined to have a vintage look. Throughout the movie, it is observed how the
technology changes throughout the years and how it helped Stephen Hawking cope up with his
disability in walking. This movie encompasses the hope that they have for each other and the
determination to work things out despite the irreversible illness that Stephen Hawking has.

The audience for this movie would be the aspiring scientist, people with disabilities, and
the people who are undergoing a major crisis in their life. This story shows how Stephen
Hawking strived to live the best of his life despite the things that he encountered. This serves as
an inspirational movie to the people who find it hard to cope up with what they are feeling at the
moment. This movie is also recommended for families. If I were to give this a rating, it would be
3 out of 5. The movie is directed nicely but it made me feel that the movie is about Jane Wilde.
This movie does not exactly explain or show the process of Stephen Hawking’s discovery and
contribution in modern science.
