My name is Atalie Hammontree. I just had my first daughter with my
husband a couple months ago and have grown up always wanting to work with children. I am currently a kindergarten teacher in the Brea Olinda school district. I love working with other teachers and I work closely with my team . We meet weekly for our PLC and work together to plan and talk about what our students need to be successful. I am our teams PBIS lead and meet with other teachers at our school to discuss our school wide PBIS needs. We work to improve school wide behavior and academic interventions. I have always had a passion for helping to meet the emotional needs of our students especially with this recent COVID year. I focus a lot on building teacher-student and student-student relationships. I believe that students need that connection to be successful in their learning. In the past I was a substitute teacher for 5 years and also did some long term substitute positions in first grade, second grade and special education. I also worked closely with foster youth and volunteered to be a mentor for some children in our neighborhood. I was able to gain lot of experience teaching in different grade levels and working with foster youth. It gives me an idea for what I need to prepare my students for in the next grade and how to help meet their emotional needs. I am always wanting to learn more and often attend professional development. I feel like there is always more to learn and I am always looking to improve myself as a teacher.
