Rhetorical Triangle:

1. Message
2. Audience
3. Communicator

MLK Speech:
- Large Crowd of supporters (audience)
- Has a clear but well-worded message (message)
- Wrote the speech himself (communicator)
- Sites history a backup evidence (message)
- Uses his words wisely to excited the audience
- The audience was strong because everyone was there to support the same ideas of
MLK
- Logos--logic
- Pathos--emotion he has a lot of this, and his speech is interesting due to that
- Ethos—credibility
- Didn’t repeat his thoughts, but when he did, it was for good impact “Let freedom ring”, “I
have a dream”
- His starting of his sections for the middle is also really impactful with the “I have a
dream”, which goes along with the structure/message of the speech
- He doesn’t use any sort of props, except for his speech in front of him, but he does a
good job of looking at the audience, and that connection makes it all the more impactful
- The audience is also reacting well to the speech, which will allow it to be more impactful
- For credibility, MLK was very poised and accurate with everything he said, and didn’t
create anything fake or construed to prove his point
