Investigation of VFTO’s in GIS Using EMTP
D.N. Yadav and R. S. Gorayan
Abstract-This paper discusses the generation of Very Fast
‘Transient Overvoltages (VFTO) in the ease of disconnector
‘operation in Gas Insulated Substations (GIS). Oscillating
Transient Overvoltages in GISis caused by switching operations
“orline to enclosure faults, These Very Fast Transient vervoltages
(VFTO) can lead to secondary breakdowns within GIS and
transient enclosure voltages outside the GIS. The magnitude of
VETO is one of the important factors to be considered in the
‘design of a GIS. As the magnitude and temporal characteristics
‘of VFTO varies in accordance with the configuration of the
system, Thus, its important to develop a suitable simulation
model for the estimation of these Overvoltages and their
influence of the GIS. These estimated values along with other
