PART NUMBERS ON TIMKEN® BEARING PARTS, ON SHIPPING BOXES, ON
SHIPPING DOCUMENTS, AND IN COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUALS
1. Effectivity
2. Reference
3. Purpose
This Service Letter tells operators that Goodrich will make part numbers agree on bearing
parts, on shipping boxes, on shipping documents, and in component maintenance
manuals (CMMs). These part numbers include a “separation” character and a “place
holder” character as shown in Figure 1.
This procedure to make part numbers agree does not change the design, rating, or
performance of the bearing parts or change how the parts are manufactured.
4. Reason
The “separation” character and “place holder” character on some bearing parts are
different than these characters on shipping boxes, on shipping documents, or in the
component maintenance manual. These different characters can cause confusion.
5. Procedure
The next revision of each Goodrich CMM will have a dash (-) as the “separation”
character and a zero (0) as the “place holder” character as shown in Figure 1. Some
CMMs now have these characters as shown by examples in Figure 2.
These characters will be shown on shipping boxes and shipping documents after May
2007.
These characters will be shown on all bearing parts that are purchased after 2008.
When you send an order for bearing parts, use the part number in the Illustrated Parts
List, but use a dash (-) as the “separation” character. Also use a zero (0) as the “place
holder” character.
