Mary Queen of Scots

This film tells some aspects of the history that existed between England and
Scotland, important moments in the life of Queen Elizabeth I, but mainly important
aspects in the life of Queen Mary I of Scotland or also known as Mary Stuart.

Seeing everything mentioned in this movie made me interested in knowing more

about who Mary Stuart was, since the only knowledge I had of her was that she
was the Queen of Scotland and for trying to betray Queen Elizabeth I she was
executed. Mary Stuart was the only legitimate daughter of King James V,
something that impacted me a lot is to know that with only 6 days of being born she
succeeded her father of the Scottish throne, being very small who were in charge
of Scotland were regents, she spent much of her childhood living in France.
Something that is mentioned in the movie is that at the age of 15 she married
Francis for the first time, when I went deeper into her history I learned that he had
a title called Dauphin of France, when he ascended to the French throne Mary was
queen consort of France for a brief period of time, less than a year, because
suddenly her husband died, when her husband died she returned the following
year to her native Scotland.

After returning to Scotland it took four years for her to remarry, on that occasion
she married her first cousin Henry Stuart, who was Duke of Albany and is the
person with whom she had her only son, the name of her son was James, she
decided that name in honor of her father and her brother, something that I have
noticed is that in this period of time it was common to marry among relatives.

What to me seems to be the most important point of the film or at least what they
want to show is to see everything she tried to do to become the queen of England
and Scotland, since according to Mary I, she was the legitimate queen to the
throne.

Another historical aspect that I could notice in the film and that when investigating I
can say that it is true, is that Mary I lost for a while the throne of Scotland,
apparently in those times religion was even more important than now, the actions
she committed were not well seen and she was considered a sinner, so for her
safety the throne passed to her brother, meanwhile she sought protection from her
cousin Elizabeth I.

As I mentioned before, Mary I had claimed the English throne and many English
Catholics also considered her as legitimate to the throne, those who supported her
the most was a rebellion called Rising of the North, this rebellion was formed by
Catholic nobles from the north of England and its objective was to overthrow
Queen Elizabeth I to be replaced by Mary Stuart. When Queen Elizabeth I
considered her as a threat, she decided to have her confined for a long time in
different castles and stately palaces, she had 18 and a half years under custody,
finally she was declared guilty for conspiring against Queen Elizabeth I, a
conspiracy that consisted in assassinating her, after a year since she was found
guilty was when they finally chose to behead her, the place where the execution
took place was in Fotheringhay Castle, in the year 1586, dying at 44 years of age,
when analyzing this data I find it interesting that almost half of his life was spent in
custody.

Something that seemed to me as a good detail in the film is that we are not left with
the doubt of what happened with her son James, at least at the end in a small text
they say that when Queen Elizabeth died, her son James VI was the successor to
the throne.

I really liked this movie, because they do tell several historical aspects that
happened in real life, since in this kind of movies fictitious events are usually
added, but apparently here did not happen, personally I learned a lot with this
movie, I knew certain characters but seeing it made me investigate more about
them and also moments that happened in real life.
