Instructions for Paper setters for PAC Mock Examinations (CAF)

1 Caution and disclaimer


1.1 All communications regarding examinations must be kept confidential.
1.2 The Examination Committee or its sub-committee reserves the right to accept, reject
or moderate the question paper.

2 Basic Guidelines for setting mock exam


2.1 The question paper should be clearly written by the examiner in his handwriting or
typed on one side of the printed paper.
2.2 The question paper should be in accordance with the syllabus reflecting a high
professional standard.
2.3 The question paper should be divided into grids ensuring that it is set in accordance
with estimated marks grid in the syllabus.

3 Nature and Scope of mock exam questions


3.1 The questions for mock exams should not be taken from previous ICAP exams,
mocks, class tests, class discussion materials, etc.
3.2 The question paper should be divided into 2 halves i.e. 50% questions for average
ability students and 50% questions for higher ability students.
3.3 The question paper should be of a reasonable length so that it can be attempted within
the time allowed.
3.4 The questions set should preferably be short questions (5-15 marks) covering a wider
part of the syllabus instead of a few lengthy questions of a large amount of marks.
3.5 The question paper should include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) for
Introduction to Economics and Finance.
3.6 The question paper should be submitted along with at least two extra questions to be
used as substitutes by the Moderation Committee, if required.
3.7 The question paper should be accompanied by the source of the questions (e.g.
publications of other accounting bodies, text books, etc.)
4 Marking Plan for mock exam
4.1 The question paper should be accompanied by a marking plan and suggested answers
otherwise it shall not be accepted by the Examination Department.
4.2 The marking plan should be divided into marks for:
a main questions
b sub-questions
c parts of sub-questions
d individual entries

5 Miscellaneous
5.1 The question papers should be accompanied by instructions to the Examination
Department for providing extra items with the answer sheets e.g. graphs, tables, etc.
5.2 The marked scripts for exams are to be returned within 24 hours.
