‘Why Do We Need To Prepare Our Bodies


for Conception?’

People often wonder why it is even necessary to ‘prepare’ our bodies before trying to
conceive. It seems like it should all happen naturally without any great effort. Yet
unfortunately, that’s not always the case.

Our bodies, like mother earth, sometimes need preparation before a new life is created.
Imagine, if a seed is planted but the earth in that location doesn’t have all the nutrients,
minerals or light it needs. The tree may not grow at all. Or, if it does grow, it might not reach
its full potential.

Well, just as healthy seeds are needed to grow a healthy tree, healthy eggs and sperm are
key ingredients for healthy human offspring.

Many couples who undergo IVF fail to properly prepare their bodies for conception because
they feel they are running out of time and cannot wait any longer. Many are told by IVF
specialists to rush into IVF and that natural preparation won’t make any difference.

The problem with doing IVF before the cause has been identified or addressed, and before
taking steps to prepare the body for conception, is that the technology is trying to go
around an underlying problem. A problem that has not yet been solved.

Most fertility clinics will not do a thorough investigation of the underlying cause before
recommending ART (assisted reproductive technology) procedures. Typically they will only
do the basic tests of the reproductive system.

‘But We Already Have A Healthy Lifestyle!’

Many people don’t realize that often, foods labeled as “healthy” are actually not. If you look
closely at the ingredients, you’ll see all sorts of additives and colors and sometimes even
artificial sweeteners which can be very toxic to the body.

Even many of the products sold in health food stores and markets are not as healthy as
many ‘health-conscious’ people believe.

Moreover, even if you eat non-processed and (when possible) organic food, the nutritional
content of the food is not what it used to be one hundred years ago before industrial
agriculture and global food supply chains. These days, food can be picked or caught today in
one country and flown out to another part of the world tomorrow so that you can buy it in
the supermarket.

Despite the convenience and variety this brings, in a short space of time, that food has
usually been either frozen or refrigerated, packaged in plastic, gassed, X-rayed, and possibly
sprayed or waxed to stay fresh longer.

By the time that food is on your plate, it has lost much of its nutrients and may contain a
myriad of toxins your liver will have to deal with.

Another common misconception is when people think they eat very healthily by regularly
eating seafood.

Deep-sea fish which live for a long time are often loaded with mercury as are mussels and
sea creatures without scales. This does not make crayfish and shrimp healthy either as they
crawl on the bottom of the sea and eat the sediment. Unfortunately, our seas are polluted
with jet fuel that is rich in heavy metals, which have been found to be a major culprit in
infertility.

These are just a few of the reasons why couples can have what seem like healthy lifestyles
yet still suffer from infertility. Low level toxin exposure is a major cause of fertility problems
that we address in the fertility coach program.

And even the purest organic diet, with the cleanest water and a low-toxin environment, may
not meet the individual requirements for nutrients and supplementation for optimal
preconception care.

‘Why Are We Struggling While My Unhealthy


Friends Are Getting Pregnant?’

I get asked this question a lot, and it’s not an easy question to answer.

One way to look at it is to compare it to why some very health conscious people are prone
to certain ailments and conditions while others who live unhealthy lives do not develop the
same problems and may even live to a ripe old age without any health complaints.

Because we see this apparent randomness and unfairness with diseases (as well as
infertility) it can sometimes seem like it’s all a lottery.

And perhaps this partly explains why a widespread belief for most of the 20th century was
that everything comes down to your genes while your diet and lifestyle makes little or no
difference.

However thanks to recent epigenetic studies we now know that genetics is not fixed and
pre-ordained. Epigenetics shows that diet, mindset and lifestyle control 95% of our genetic
expression.

What that means is, one person might have a genetic predisposition to a certain type of
cancer but whether it ever manifests depends to a large extent on whether their diet,
mindset and lifestyle switch that genetic predisposition on or off.

Another person who does not have a disposition or weakness in that area, will not manifest
the disease, despite doing all the wrong things. Just look at Keith Richards.

Now let me say that fertility is not the same as cancer or other diseases –in fact, in my view
fertility is more of a correctable imbalance than a disease – but the example helps to
illustrate the point.

So with that in mind, why is it that those who seem ‘super healthy’ can still be faced with
infertility while those who are clearly not sometimes have 2-3 kids seemingly easily?

Each body has its own predispositions, which manifest differently. For some, it’s their
skeletal system, digestion, immunity, nervous system, reproduction or some other system.
We all have our own ‘Achilles heel’ - or weak spot.

Many of the clients I work with have healthy diets, lifestyles, exercise, use only natural
products, eat organic, filter their water and take supplements.

In fact, when I speak to those clients initially, there is often a detectable defiance, as if to say,
‘we are already doing everything you can teach us, and it’s not working’ - understandably,
for many the impression is: general healthy eating and healthy lifestyle is all you can do to
optimize your fertility naturally.

However, what many don’t understand (at least at first) is that each person is biochemically
as unique as their fingerprint and as such just because something is regarded as ‘healthy’,
‘whole foods’ or ‘organic’ it does not automatically mean it’s equally ok for everyone.

Many people are intolerant to otherwise healthy foods like eggs, and many have genetic
polymorphisms which are interfering with their liver’s ability to remove toxins from their
body efficiently. This may not sound like much but just these two small examples are enough
to cause havoc in the body and predispose countless couples to poor fertility.

While the end result - infertility - may be the same for each couple, the cause is as different
and unique as they are.

That’s why, for many couples (particularly those with complex cases) a proper analysis is
necessary before we can uncover what is predisposing you to infertility in spite of your
healthy diet and lifestyle habits.

3 Common & Costly Misconceptions About


Natural Fertility

Here are three common misconceptions about what natural fertility and preconception
care really is.

1. ‘Natural preconception methods are just healthy eating and healthy lifestyle tips’

This is a common misconception that you may even hear from a fertility clinic doctor
who is not well versed in natural fertility or preconception care. Part of the problem
with this misconception is that the word ‘healthy’ means different things to different
people. Moreover, eating to restore fertility is not quite the same as eating for weight
loss, athletic performance or energy. The diet and lifestyle for optimal fertility is a
specific approach.

What’s more, different fertility conditions have differing dietary and nutritional
needs. Many couples who join our fertility coaching program are very health
conscious people who exercise regularly and eat carefully.

Yet invariably there are things they are doing that are problematic for their fertility
and which are only obvious when you look closely. As is so often the case, the devil is
in the details. The risk of simplifying it to just ‘eating healthily, exercising and taking
your vitamins’ is that couples may overlook the small things that can make a big
difference to their fertility.

2. ‘It’s not helpful if you’re planning on doing IVF anyway’

Many people believe it’s either/or. i.e. natural fertility OR assisted reproductive
technology and that if they plan to do IVF, then natural preparation won’t help. This is
a misconception. While our priority is to enable our clients to get pregnant naturally
(and many of our clients are only interested in getting pregnant naturally) we have
also helped many clients prepare their bodies for successful IVF and other ART
treatments where previously they have had failed cycles. At least one study has
demonstrated that the per cycle success rate increased dramatically after couples
underwent a natural preconception care program first.

3. ‘Surely this can’t help for serious cases’

While it’s true that some conditions and some cases cannot be solved naturally, it’s
equally true that some forms of serious infertility that cannot be helped with IVF can
be addressed with a natural preconception protocol.

8 Mistakes to Avoid When Facing Infertility

1. Panic about age and declining fertility

We regularly read in the media statistics that women’s fertility falls precipitously
after 35.

The truth is you probably have more time than you think. Most statistics on age and
fertility are based on IVF patients and not natural conception rates in the general
population. Furthermore, much of the ‘age-related’ infertility in women
pre-menopause is due to poor egg and cellular health which can often be addressed
naturally.

Many of our clients have had babies in their early to mid 40’s after being told they had
virtually no chance. Realise that the time you take to prepare your body properly will
nearly always be time well spent in terms of improved egg, sperm and cellular health.
Even if it means postponing your planned IVF cycle for 6-12 months.

2. Not questioning the mainstream medical narrative

The conventional medical position is that if you have been trying for more than 6 or
12 months (depending on age) assisted reproductive technology (drugs and
procedures) is your best and only option.

The problem with this approach is that the effectiveness of IVF differs enormously
depending on each case.

Yet the ‘IVF automatically’ approach does not take this into account or recommend
alternatives. Ultimately you need to decide what’s best for you based on carefully
considering all the options. Only mainstream medical doctors who are trained in
complementary, functional or integrative medicine are likely to endorse natural
alternatives to any medical problem. And that’s ok.

3. Thinking it’s all just a lottery

Many couples, watching their unhealthy friends become pregnant decide it’s all just
a lottery over which they have no control. This is a disempowering view that won’t
serve you. Yes, there are random factors (genetics etc) you can’t control, but you have
far more influence over your fertility than is commonly believed.

4. Relying on poor information

The most expensive information you can ever use is the wrong information. Two types
to be aware of when it comes to your fertility:

1. Biased information - for example, when a fertility clinic tells you your only option is
drugs and procedures.

2. Unsubstantiated information - when a natural fertility specialist says eat this food,
take this supplement etc, is it evidence-based?

5. Going it alone

You might decide to try to solve the problem on your own. Perhaps you’ll do your own
research and design your own plan for your fertility. This is possible to some extent
but makes it much more difficult. In the fertility coach program we do the work for
you. We curate each aspect of the fertility plan to make it much easier to follow. And
we provide a clear program that’s tailored to your case and condition.

6. Letting infertility control your life

I understand how painful and all-consuming infertility can be. When struggling to get
pregnant it can seem like nothing else matters but having a child. Yet, it’s important
not to let infertility take over every part of your life. Sometimes letting go can be
helpful in gaining perspective. I have seen couples fall pregnant once they let go and
focus more on their own health and happiness. And remember, letting go doesn’t
mean giving up.

7. Losing faith too quickly

Not allowing enough time. Not trusting the body to overcome the obstacles, creating
negative emotions through your thoughts which can have a negative impact on the
work you’re doing. Sometimes we’re too impatient.

When it comes to fertility, persistence and not losing faith really can pay off.

The traditional medical approach is to err on the side of pessimism so as not to give
people false hope; this often means doctors will portray a negative prognosis. I always
try to give couples realistic yet optimistic expectations.

chances of a natural pregnancy are low. I will tell you if I think IVF and an egg donor is
your best option.

However for most couples this is not the case. Most couples who are struggling to
conceive (in my experience and opinion) have a better chance of a natural pregnancy
than they have been led to believe by their doctors.

8. Rushing into IVF

Many couples don’t realise that IVF cannot substitute for poor egg, sperm and cellular
health. IVF does not address underlying reproductive health, rather it is a technology
that tries to go around the problem to force a conception on a body that is often not
ready. This is why roughly 70% of IVF cycles fail. People are usually not preparing
their bodies properly and allowing enough time to resolve their fertility naturally.

13 Fertility Boosting Habits


1. Go to bed at 9pm

Your natural melatonin production (hormone of youth and fertility) peaks around
9pm. So you want to capitalise on it by going to bed early and waking up early. Your
brain and body love routines and this routine will not only help your fertility but also
your general health and well-being. Better sleep hygiene and timing will also help to
alleviate stress.

2. Brush your teeth with a sea salt toothpaste and scrape your tongue in the morning

Sea salt is naturally antimicrobial and helps to keep your teeth white. Overnight, your
body is detoxing and some of the detoxed impurities will be on your tongue in the
form of a coating or a film. You can get copper tongue scrapers in health food shops.

Oral health and hygiene is very important to overall health.

3. Start your day with a lemon cinnamon water and a pinch of sea salt.

Mix 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon with a juice of freshly squeezed 1/2 lemon and add
warm water and a pinch of salt. This drink will wake up your digestive system and
stimulate your circulation. Cinnamon is also great for blood sugar regulation. The sea
salt contains minerals which help nourish your adrenal glands.

4. Spend 30 min in meditation in the morning

Before you start chasing your routine and to-do list, spend 30 min centring yourself
and focusing on all the things you are grateful for. You can do this with a meditation or
a gratitude exercise where you list in your mind all the things you are grateful for. This
will help you start the day with a positive attitude.

5. Practice intermittent fasting

Try skipping breakfast and eating only from lunch onwards. You may have an oily tea
(rooibos chai tea mixed with MCT oil and a teaspoon of ghee) or a version of decaf
bulletproof coffee in the morning to tide you over until lunch. This practice has been
shown to rejuvenate cells and promote the removal of diseased and old cells and
debris. It can help you lose weight if this is necessary and regulate your blood sugar
which is key for fertility.

Also, try to avoid eating less than 2 hours before going to bed. Going to bed without a
full stomach (if not slightly hungry) will promote a positive hormonal response during

sleep (which is what you want for health and fertility).

6. Eat in 6h - 8h interval a day

Similar to the above, keep your eating hours limited to a 6-8 hour window. So if your
first meal is at noon, the last should be at 6pm or 8pm. This is again to support your
metabolism and help regulate blood sugar. Frequent blood sugar fluctuations can
interfere with steroid hormone production which can predispose to hormone
imbalance.

7. Move your body for at least 60min a day

Being active is very important for fertility as it keeps your circulation to the
reproductive organs going. Sedentary lifestyle has many downsides so try to exercise
daily. It’s best to do a combination of cardio and weight training with a professional
trainer.

8. Eat your dinner at least 2-3h hours before bed

If you go to bed with a full stomach you’ll spend the energy which is reserved for
cellular repair on food digestion which will lead to poor sleep and feeling groggy and
unrested in the morning. Going to bed with an empty stomach ensures a deep and
restful sleep which is key for fertility.

9. Unplug WiFi and any electronic devices in your bedroom before sleep

EMF has been shown to interfere with melatonin production at night. Melatonin is
not only the youth hormone but also a cancer fighter and a powerful antioxidant. It’s
key for optimal hormone production and egg and sperm quality.

10. Don’t watch news and action/thriller movies before sleep

Consuming any kind of emotionally charged media (including books) before sleep can
lead to the secretion of adrenaline at night which will suppress melatonin and other
restorative hormones. Your body also regulates steroid hormones in your sleep,
solves problems and integrates new knowledge. If you try to sleep with high
adrenaline levels you may have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep which may
lead to feeling tired and groggy the next day.

11. Brush your teeth with sea salt and scrape your tongue at night before bed

You have accumulated toxins and bacteria over the course of the day in your mouth
and you can make the cleaning process easier for your body by scraping your tongue

good idea to use dental floss or a water pick when you brush your teeth in the

12. Connect with your future child for 10-20 min before falling asleep

We often forget that getting pregnant is more than just the meeting of the egg and

love emanating from your heart. Once you are there you can ask to connect with the
spirit of your future child and wait to see if you get any images or feelings, or thoughts
or other sensations that could indicate a presence of your future child. Once felt and
connected, nourish this bond during your fertility journey to speed up the conception
time. You can love your future child in your heart before you get to hold them in your
arms.

13. Eat slowly and mindfully

Eating slowly and mindfully and chewing our food well is one of the simplest, yet most
powerful things you can do to improve your digestive function which is one of the 15
fertility health and wellness factors.

By eating slowly you tend to eat less but digest better since digestion begins in the
mouth. Eating slowly also helps to reduce stress as it encourages you to be more at
the moment.

Sometimes couples ask about the scientific evidence behind some of the recommendations
we make. Have studies really shown that fertility can be impacted by things like foods and
beverages, toxins in our environment and detoxification, nutrients and herbs, even lifestyle
choices and mind/body factors?

If you or your partner have asked about this question, the answer may surprise you.

In recent years, hundreds of research studies looking at these areas have been quietly
published in respected, peer-reviewed medical journals.

People are often surprised to learn that many credible studies have demonstrated that
certain substances, activities, foods, nutrients and herbs can have a powerful positive

‘How Does Your Program Work?’

The program works by helping you over a period of weeks and months to boost your egg and
sperm quality and your overall reproductive health, resulting in increased fertility in most
people when they follow the process properly.

It’s a little complicated to explain how egg and sperm health can be improved through
natural means because maturing an egg and generating sperm involves some complex
bio-chemistry and timing. However, it’s quite important to understand how this process
works so let me try.

Since the egg cells and sperm cells are forming and growing anew every three to four
months respectively it’s important for their health and stability that they receive all the
necessary building blocks in the form of nutrients. While at the same time they are
protected from harmful substances which have been shown in studies to harm their
development and hence impact the quality and ability to fertilize or be fertilized.

For example, during menstruation, iron and vitamin C should be favored, but when the

‘How Long Can It Take?’

There is no one answer to this question. For some people it may be as easy as replenishing
a depleted nutrient in a few weeks or a month while for others it can take a few years to
finally overcome all the obstacles.

In simple terms, it takes a minimum of 120 days for women to restore fertility naturally.
Why is this? Because 120 days is the time it takes for primordial cells to become egg cells.
90 Days is the typical time it takes for sperm cells to mature for men. This means that your
current state of fertility is the result of what you were doing, ingesting and being exposed to
3-4 months ago.

Therefore, to restore your fertility and get pregnant naturally, you need to allow a minimum
of 4 months from the time you start making changes to your diet, lifestyle, toxin exposure,
nutrition -- before expecting results.

Trans Fats and Fertility

You probably already know trans fats are bad for your health and if you guessed that they
are not good for your fertility you’d be absolutely right.

Consuming trans fats hidden in foods such as doughnuts, biscuits, lollies, candy, chocolate,
chips, pies, fries, fast food and thousands of other foods may increase your risk of infertility
by as much as 70 percent.

Scientists from the Harvard University School of Public Health advise women wanting to
get pregnant to avoid all trans fats. The sole purpose of adding trans fats to food is to extend
its shelf life. To minimize your consumption of trans fats, be mindful of packaged food
ingredients and try to avoid the most likely culprits altogether.

Trans fats are often listed as “hydrogenated fat,” “hardened vegetable fat” or simply “
vegetable fat.”

Dairy and Infertility

Many people talk about the estrogen in soy, but did you know that dairy products account
(on average) for 60–70% of estrogens consumed? We usually associate dairy and drinking
milk with calcium, and never think about what else we may be consuming along with the

Studies have found higher concentrations of pesticides in cheese than in non-organically


grown fruit and vegetables.

The first line of naturopathic treatment I recommend for PCOS and Endometriosis is to
minimize intake of animal products. Un-pastured and non-organically grown meat and dairy
have high levels of hormones, pesticides, and herbicides which are known endocrine
disruptors. They play havoc with your hormones and this can lead to anovulation.

Coffee, Alcohol and Fertility

You may not want to hear this, but drinking coffee has been shown to decrease fertility.
Therefore, if you are looking to boost your fertility it’s a good idea to avoid coffee.

A large study from Connecticut demonstrated that a daily cup of coffee or two can increase
the risk of not conceiving in susceptible individuals. If you are an avid coffee drinker and
have been trying to conceive for six months or longer without any success it’s advisable to
stop drinking coffee for at least 4-6 months prior to conception.

Another study also showed that women who drank coffee before and during pregnancy
had twice the risk of miscarriage. So I recommend to all couples to avoid coffee during the
preconception stage and pregnancy.

Alcohol is harmful to eggs and sperm and as little as one glass can reduce fertility by 50%.
This can further lead to damage of the developing embryo and may result in miscarriage.
And although it’s been known for a long time that drinking while pregnant is a no-no,
drinking before pregnancy has been largely ignored.

This doesn’t stop with coffee and alcohol. Smoking and recreational drugs can also reduce
your odds of conception. A study tested the effects of cigarette smoking on semen quality
in men and found that sperm motility (ability to propel forward) decreased in light smokers
while heavy smoking produced abnormal sperm shape.

Scientists have discovered that quitting smoking for 5 to 15 months may increase sperm
count in men by 50% to 800%, respectively.

Tap Water and Fertility

Sadly, it’s a fact that waterways in most parts of the world are regularly polluted by some
level of industrial waste and byproducts, pharmaceutical drugs, pesticides and herbicides,
and commercial cleaning products.

There are many companies polluting our water supplies regardless of the country you live
in. Either there is no environmental law at all, there are loopholes in the law or there is no

law for the “XYZ” chemical making its way into the water supply.

Heavy metals are the most common of the repro toxins reaching our water supply through
industrial waste, jet fuel exhaust residue, and a variety of other sources.

Pharmaceutical drugs are commonly found in tap water. Because the drugs do not
metabolize fully, small quantities are excreted via feces and urine and flushed away.

Toilet water is often treated and filtered before being discharged into lakes and rivers
thereby re-entering the water supply. The trouble is, many drugs cannot be filtered out via
the regular filtration process.

Minute quantities of chemotherapy drugs, contraceptive pills, antidepressants, anxiolytics,


anabolic steroids, HRT (hormone replacement therapy), heart drugs, etc. have been found in
tap water in many parts of the world.

A solution to this problem is to install a dual filtration water system (there are affordable
bench-top versions that we recommend) that filters particles smaller than 1 micron (this will
filter out the drugs as well as heavy metals).

Use the filter in your shower and your kitchen. Your shower steam contains the same
chemicals, which you can end up inhaling and can be absorbed through your skin.

There are many people, products and services online (and offline) claiming to help restore
your fertility. Some offer sound information but many are not credible or realistic solutions.
Here are four of the most common fertility-related rip-offs.

1. The 30-day ‘miracle’ infertility cure - any product or service that promises you
will get pregnant in 30 days or that guarantees you will fall pregnant is neither
credible nor trustworthy. While many of our clients have called their pregnancy
a ‘miracle’ we never promise miracles and see the process as the result of
systematic, evidence-based changes over time that improve your odds of
pregnancy. While I have seen clients fall pregnant within a month of starting our
program this is rare and not a realistic timeframe for most couples.

2. One-size-fits-all fertility supplement - it is simply not possible to package all the


nutrients your body may need for optimal fertility (in therapeutic doses) into a
single pill or supplement. This is why we don’t recommend over the counter and
all-in-one fertility supplements. Supplement needs vary depending on the case,
the condition and other factors. When it comes to supplements for fertility,
personalisation is key as is quality and potency.

3. The one-dimensional alternative treatment - it is tempting to believe that one


dietary change, a single supplement or herb, a new fertility superfood or detox
or undergoing acupuncture treatments is going to resolve our fertility problems.
While many of these factors can help it is much more powerful to take a
synergistic approach that’s tailored to your condition. True healing is self healing
and self-healing is about giving your body the optimal conditions in a holistic way.

4 Questions to Ask a Natural Fertility Expert

Many people provide natural fertility tips, advice and information. However it’s important
to remember that not all information is of the same quality. Moreover, there is no more
expensive information than bad information.

When it comes to your fertility it’s important to separate fact from fiction, evidence-based
advice that’s appropriate to your case versus one-size-fits all tips and unproven information.
Before choosing who and what to trust your fertility to, I recommend considering the
following questions:

1. What are their qualifications? This raises the question of who is qualified to give
advice on natural fertility? Medical doctors typically receive only a few hours of
nutrition training (if any) and know very little about alternative fertility
treatments. It is simply not the healing paradigm of most doctors. Naturopaths or
Natural Doctors have a good foundation in nutrition and holistic medicine.
However, restoring fertility naturally is more specific than holistic health advice
and some knowledge of reproductive medicine is helpful.

2. What is their track-record? In other words, do they have a record of helping


couples fall pregnant? You may be surprised to know that there are Fertility
Clinics that do not have a single documented live birth. Look for case studies and
real-world testimonials.

3. What are others saying about them? Are they endorsed or recommended by
other health and fertility experts?

4. Which cases and conditions can and can’t be helped? Fertility consists of at least
a dozen different conditions. Each of these requires a somewhat different
approach and involves a different timeframe and likelihood of success. If someone
tells you they can help with all types of infertility in the same amount of time, this
is a red flag.

‘Can this Approach Work for My Condition?’

You may be wondering what type of infertility conditions can (and can’t) this natural
approach help with. First of all, if you’ve got severely blocked fallopian tubes or if you are
missing the fallopian tubes, if you had an ectopic pregnancy or if you had a really big cyst
and you had to have your tubes removed, then you will not be able to get pregnant naturally.

Also, if there are certain congenital malformations to the reproductive organs, the Fertility
Coach process would not be able to help you. For example, if a man is missing vas deferens,
which means he cannot ejaculate the semen because he’s missing the tubes through which
semen has to pass through.

In those scenarios, your best option may be IVF, and in those scenarios, it’s marvelous that
we have IVF and other ART procedures. There also could be some specific congenital
malformations or certain genetic issues, which you cannot change. They are the areas
where our approach will not be able to help, but most cases of infertility are not such severe
cases.

Most people have either an unexplained fertility diagnosis or have PCOS or endometriosis
or poor sperm parameters or hormonal issues, thyroid issues etc. Those are the sort of
things that are very well treated naturally.

In fact, it’s recommended that you use the natural approach for those sorts of conditions
because they are not just originating in the reproductive system. They tend to be systemic
or metabolic, which means you have other underlying issues.

For example, endometriosis is genetic as well as immune and endocrine-related, and it’s
linked also to your reproductive system. This means we need to work on it on multiple
levels. There’s also thyroid function implicated in endometriosis. We’ll need to look at that,
also.

But the good news is: it’s effective, usually lasting and far gentler than surgical approaches.

Endometriosis can manifest in different stages varying from mild to severe, labeled stages
1 to 4. Stages 3 and 4 may require surgery for faster treatment and if the pain is severe.
Surgery alone is usually not enough to permanently remove the condition and the adhesions
and symptoms can return.

This is why regardless of the stage the medical treatment should be accompanied by dietary,
lifestyle and supplemental changes to manage the internal and external epigenetic factors
which may trigger the genes responsible for endometriosis.

Sperm Abnormalities

Many couples are told to undergo IVF when they have poor sperm quality. The truth is, this
is one of the most unnecessary reasons for IVF because many cases of sperm abnormalities
can be addressed in as little as 90 days.

There are rare severe cases due to anatomical and genetic abnormalities which do require
more invasive sperm retrieval methods from the testes and/or donor sperm. But these cases
are luckily not common.

recommend IVF. Note: we can’t treat severely blocked tubes naturally. But mildly blocked
tubes often respond well.

Hypothyroidism

This shockingly common and underdiagnosed condition leads to many fertility related
problems.

Doctors treat it with thyroid drugs which are usually a lifetime medication. In our view,
conventional treatment of hypothyroidism is a classic case of over-medication. Especially
when you discover it’s possible to treat hypothyroidism without thyroid drugs; safely,
reliably and effectively in as little as 3 months and restore thyroid-related infertility.

Hypothyroidism is so common that everyone should know this information. Not only is
optimal thyroid function crucial for healthy fertility and egg quality but also for your
enzymes in charge of folic acid transportation into the cells. As you may be aware, folate is
crucial for optimal fertility and healthy fetal development.

High FSH

High FSH is a reason for concern for many women as it’s used as a marker for egg quality
and ovarian reserve. The standard interpretation is that the higher the FSH number the
poorer the egg quality and the lower the ovarian reserve.

This diagnosis is often accompanied with the recommendation to not waste any time, to
hurry into IVF and to consider donor eggs. None of the recommendations any woman wants
to hear! From my clinical experience high FSH can be brought down once the cause for the
hormonal interruption is identified and brought down.

You see, hormones are simply messengers. It’s how cells and organs communicate with
each other. They send messages to each other via hormones instructing each other what to
do. When the ovaries don’t reply to the Pituitary’s messages, the Pituitary sends the same
message again and again and again. The message gets sent so many times in the form of FSH
that it drives your FSH level up.

Once we can identify why the ovaries are not replying or not sending sufficient messages in
the form of estrogen back to the Pituitary gland, we can address the cause and restart the
communication between the two organs and resume healthy egg maturation and ovulation.

If you are in your late 40s or early 50s then high FSH may be heralding menopause
accompanied by irregular cycles and/or cessation of menstruation. In this case, while it’s
possible to manage menopausal symptoms naturally, it may not be possible to restore
proper ovarian function - sufficient enough for a natural healthy pregnancy.

Unexplained/Secondary infertility

This mysterious and frustrating diagnosis may be unexplained but it is never without cause.

Advanced Age

Firstly, just because you’re 38+ doesn’t automatically mean you can’t have a healthy natural
pregnancy. Many women conceive naturally into their 40’s.

Secondly, as long as you have some ovarian reserve and you’re still ovulating, it’s possible to
fall pregnant naturally using your eggs regardless of your age.

And thirdly, IVF can do nothing to improve chromosomal issues; it can only screen for them.
The natural approach can help you improve egg and sperm health, and rejuvenate cellular
health and cellular signalling.

These steps can significantly improve your biological age.
