APA Paper Formatting and Style Guidelines

1. Use white 81/2 x 11” paper (or short size bond paper).
2. Make 1 inch margins on the top, bottom and sides of the paper.
3. The first word in every paragraph should be indented one half inch (or 5 spaces).
4. It is recommended to use Times Roman or Cambria font, size 12.
5. Double space the entire research paper.
6. Include a page header known as the running head at the top of every page. Only the title
page will be put with the words Running Head , the rest will just have the short version of
the title.
NOTE:
- The Running Head or page header is the shortest version of your research title, which
includes the very key topic of your research.
- The Running Head is written starting from the title page, but the rest of the pages will
not include the ‘running head’ heading anymore, only the short version of the title.
- It is put to the left-hand side of the paper opposite the page number which is at the
right-hand side of the paper.
- Sample:

7. The Title Page acts as the first major section of the research paper. It includes the following:
▪ The Running Head with the short version of the research title; put at the left corner with
a colon before putting the shortened version of the title
▪ The number page of the research paper starts from the title page; no need to put p. or
pg. before the number. The number page is put across the running head.
▪ Put the necessary details about the research study centered and equally distributed on
the entire page. This includes (in this order)
Full title of the research study
