Ethical leadership is defined as “leadership demonstrating and promoting ‘normatively

appropriate conduct through personal actions and interpersonal relations’.”
In modern times, numbers are what firms usually look at in assessing whether their organizational
outcomes are effective or not, regardless of what type of leadership or practices they employ.
Ethical leaders translate internalized personal values into action in organizations and their
followers respect them.
The positive outcomes that this type of leadership enhance are dedication, job satisfaction and
perceived leaders’ effectiveness.
Research in the Indonesian context aims to discover the implicit leadership theory and showed
that the most important aspects that a leader should have are: morality, intelligence, ability to
lead and competence in building social relationship.
By considering the elements of ethical leadership we can see that they are related. In fact, ethical
leadership is characterized by honesty which is important to build trust, justice because they treat
everyone equally, respect that foster inclusion and value diversity, integrity, responsibility which
means to be always present in challenging situations and transparency that concerns the
communication with stakeholders and not only the employees.
These aspects of ethical leadership include inside morality, intelligence (especially emotional
intelligence) and abilities to build social relationship based on trust.
In the next section of these presentation my collegues will show you the intervention that we
want to implement in the Indonesian context.
