Jeffrey Agrell"Blues for B.D.
Program Notes
Blues for D.D, was written for oboe virtuese Diana Doheny at her request. it starts
slow and easy, and then takes oil, transmogrilying the blues through sections of catchy
swing, filling Latin, end blistering bebop belore crashing to ean with a nearly three
octave chramatic swoop and concluding with a sassy bit of tongue in cheek,
The piece was designed te be fun fo play and fun t listen to, andtotest the outer
limits of the possible in oboe technique. Thus, the principal requirements for
| undertaking this piece area sense of humor and considerably more technique than
| God. The Blues js an oboist’s Everest. and only an elite few are capable af making ito
| the top. A live performance of Biies for D.D. is a breathless and thrilling experience
