1. What is contemporary world?


The contemporary world is an ever-changing mix of social and political changes. While religious,
political, and ethnic conflicts continue, we are currently living in one of the most peaceful eras in the
history of the planet.
2. What do you expect to learn from this subject?
I expect to learn from the subject is to understand and appreciate our history and the history of the
other countries.
3. Define the following terminologies:
a. Aging Population
An ageing population is one where the proportion of older people is increasing. This is also known as
'demographic ageing' and 'population ageing'. The size and proportion of the global population as
relates to age over time.
b. Crude Birth Rate
The crude birth rate is the number of live births occurring among the population of a given geographical
area during a given year, per 1,000 mid-year total population of the given geographical area during the
same year.
c. Crude Death Rate
is the total number of deaths to residents in a specified geographic area (country, state, county, etc.)
divided by the total population for the same geographic area (for a specified time period, usually a
calendar year) and multiplied by 100,000.
d. Demographic Transition
is a model the changes in a country's population it states that the population will eventually stop
growing when the country transitions from high birth rates and high death rates to low birth rates and
death rates stabilizing the population this stabilization often occurs in industrialized
e. Dependency Ratio
The dependency ratio is an age-population ratio of those typically not in the labor force and those
typically in the labor force. It is used to measure the pressure on the productive population.
f. Life Expectancy
refers to the number of years a person can expect to live. By definition, life expectancy is based on an
estimate of the average age that members of a particular population group will be when they die.
g. Migration
The movement of a person or people from one country, locality, place of residence, etc., to settle in
another; an instance of this. Migration is, first and foremost, a normal human activity. Human beings
have always moved from 'one country, locality, [and] place of residence to settle in another'.
