Definition of Report Text

Report Text is a type of text that announces the results of an investigation or


announces something. The information that can be provided in the text of the
report is very general information.

Each of these texts has a communicative purpose. The communicative purpose


of the text report is to be able to present information about something in general.

Report Text is included in a genre of text that is included in the descriptive


category, which is a genre or type of text that tries to describe things such as
objects, humans, plants, animals and so on which are still very common.

Purpose of Report Text


The communicative purpose of the Report text is to be able to describe
something as it is, which is the result of systematic observation or research and
analysis.

In essence, the text report contains various facts of an object that can be proven
scientifically. So, give a description of an object.

Both texts try to show the reader the condition of a fact of the object in question.

This text report is also known as an informational report, which in language has
the function of being able to provide information about an event or situation,
after an investigation has been carried out and through various considerations.

In essence, this report text usually contains facts that can be proven
scientifically.

Characteristics of Report Text


• Contains various scientific facts.
• The title will be visible generally.
• Accompanied by an image and statistical data.
• Using a Simple Present Tense sentence pattern.
• Using general nouns.
• Using an interrelated verb.
• Consists of an object plus objects about other realms.
• Describe various groups or general aspects, not specific individuals.
• Using conditional logical conjunctions such as: when, so, etc.

Report Text Language Elements


• General Nouns: An object (whether living or dead) that is of a general
nature. Just try to compare: Hunting dogs> <My dog. These hunting dogs
are common. Meanwhile, my dog is special.
• Relating Verbs: In grammar, it is also called linking verbs. As in to be [is,
am, are: present], seem, look, taste and others.
• Timeless Present Tense: One of the time markers in the simple present
which resembles “often, usually, always” and so on.
• Technical Terms: The terms that cover the text of the report. For
example, in the discourse "music", the musical terms should be.
• Introducing Group or General Aspect: Because report text is a result
of a description of a study, the language used is a variety of languages
that introduce an object in general.

General Structure of Report Text


1. General Classification

In the first part of this report text is a general classification. This section contains
a variety of general information based on the results of previous observations
about natural phenomena, animals, plants and others. Unlike descriptive text,
report text presents a variety of general information.

2. Description

This next paragraph is called a description. The description section of a report


text has the same function as the descriptive text, which is to be able to further
describe the various results of the research in more detail.

Example of Report Text


The Tambora Eruption
In the middle of 1815, there was a great eruption which destroyed some of the
Indonesia because of the Tambora mountain.

Tambora mountain itself was located in the Sumbawa island in Indonesia which
erupted at the first on April 5th it came in the dawn when all of the people were
enjoying the bed in the night with their family.

There was a great rumbling of water, wind and explosion heard hard. The
people were so shocked of it, they looked out the home, and saw the eruption
of Tambora mountain and the ash.

They were so busy to keep and brought the family and important thing from the
home. They ran to the other place which away from the mountain. The goat,
cow and buffalo ran down from the mountain too.

There was no any preparation and could not see out side clearly only the moon
light as their torch. Many victim were killed by the Tambora mountain around
100.000 people, the homes were burning, many goat and animals killed too.

The lava fell down rapidly and made the people were panic and did not know
what they should do. The plants burnt. They survived their self. They climbed
the hill and mountain .

Unfortunately, five days after the first eruption, there was a greater eruption later
from the Tambora mountain on April 10th and it had killed many people more
than 100.000, animal and others.

Flaming hot debris thrown into the surrounding ocean and caused the
explosions of stream. And more tragic the moderate –sized tsunami storm.

It flew the much rock and ash was thrown away of Tambora mountain so that
all the height of volcano was reduced from 14.000 until 9.000 feet.

Everything will give the bad and good effect, same with the eruption of Tambora,
it gave the fertilized ground, the spectacular colored sunset throughout the
world, snow and frost in the New England during in June or summer.
